Project Overview
[edit]This page documents and lists guidelines for the California State University San Bernardino's participation in the California State University Wikidata Building Project.
Goals
[edit]- Gain familiarity with Wikidata and its tools
- Explore linked data creation and examine its usefulness as a tool for staff, educators, students, and researchers
- Share and promote the visibility of data about our institution and resources in a potentially more easily discoverable, centralized, and accessible location than traditional information access points such as university websites and physical holdings
- Consider the ethics and safety of publishing university data and attempt to construct safe practices for public resources
- Consider how to manage building items created by university employees so as not to duplicate efforts, and determine if standardization of WikiData items for the university's buildings is possible. ex: California State University San Bernardino Bookstore (Q99476081)
- Link existing academic departments, schools, and other related items to building items. ex: Add California State University San Bernardino Department of Kinesiology (Q101028739)'s location (P276) to Health PE Complex (HP) once building item is created.

- Academic Department is a subclass of Faculty.
- Some of these have confusing descriptions, ex: California State University San Bernardino College of Business and Public Administration (Q99287927) is described as "campus" but it's a business school (Q1143635).
- CSUSB College of Natural Sciences (Q5014414) has no "Instance of" statement. What should it be categorized as? How do we find this type of info?
