Motivation
[edit]We are adding artists and photographers to Wikidata from collections of museums and archives. Currently those are orphans as there is no way to connect the artists to the collection (unless we create an artwork item, but this is not always useful). We would like to add connections to the collections that have works of the the artist because for GLAM-institutions it is useful to know of institutions who have material of this artist and could be expert on the artists work. One reason for this is that GLAMs are able to contact heirs for licensing or exhibitions by contacting the insititution that have works in the collection. - Support. It is easier to store this than to create statements for every single artwork and then process the data hoping that our database is exhaustive. collection or exhibition size (P1436) may be used as a qualifier. Thierry Caro (talk) 21:29, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support. Agree with Thierry Caro, also, artworks might not be notable enough, e.g. for photographers etc., but the artist and the collection and their connection might be. MichellevanLanschot (talk) 06:51, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
