Motivation
[edit]Music/creative-work releases - especially KPOP albums - often have distinguishing names that are assigned to the specific product but not part of actual official name (P1448) or title (P1476).
For example, the full name for an album would be "Taste of Love: The 10th Mini Album (Taste ver.)". Here, "Taste of Love" is the title, "The 10th Mini Album" is the subtitle, and "Taste ver." is the version.
This "version" is what this proposed property fulfills and it should match usage as described in the MusicBrainz style guide. Lectrician1 (talk) 03:25, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

Support --This property fulfills a need of recording what we call in cataloging rules the "edition statement", that is a transcription of a statement naming an edition that appears on a book or other manifestation being cataloged. Edition statements are statements such as "First edition", "Second edition", "3rd revised edition", "Black and white version", "Color version", "Dubbed version", "Sound version", "Director's cut", "Final cut", "Original theatrical release", "2006 edition", "High voice", "Low voice", "XYZ remix", "Richie's fabulous blue mix", etc. The corresponding property in Resource Description and Access (Q1519318) is has edition statement. The corresponding MARC bibliographic field is field 250, and there are numerous examples that you can see there. I think this property would be better named as "edition/version statement" and that it be recommended that it be an transcription of the statement of edition/version that appears on a book, video, score, art work, etc. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 07:14, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- I'm wondering if this should have a string rather than an item datatype? If the intent is to capture the exact string used in the "edition statement", then that could be quite widely variable (and the examples already noted are quite varied). ArthurPSmith (talk) 21:18, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

Another option for this proposed property is just changing edition number (P393) to "version" or "edition/version". That's what the schema.org equivalant property does, as it allows numbers and text. --Lectrician1 (talk) 03:06, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Comment This property would also be relevant for video games. While we do not (currently, generally) create items for various editions/versions of games, I think we would use it as qualifier − for identifier disambiguation purposes (see eg Q20420#P1933, with “Gold edition” and “Limited Collector's Edition”) and/or to qualify alternative_titles. And also as main statement on the few splitted items such as The Binding of Isaac (Unholy Edition) (Q60997648). Jean-Fred (talk) 11:59, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
