Melania Trump left viewers tuning into President Jimmy Carter's funeral scratching their heads over her bizarre outfit choice.

The former First Lady, who has become renowned for her 'out-there' outfit choices, didn't fail to disappoint with her latest zany ensemble for the 39th president's funeral. Viewers are comparing the First Lady's Puritanical-chic look to everything from singing in a choir to joining a convent.

Melania was seen in the church with husband President-Elect Donald Trump wearing a black belted trench coat dress with an oversized white collar, which featured a black-and-white printed design. She paired the look with black pumps and wore her hair slicked back in a low bun.

While she looked glamorous as ever, some fans weren't wowed by her dramatic get-up.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, some critics expressed their distaste for the First Lady's extreme look, with one spectator writing: "Is Melania trying to look pure as a Puritan in that hideous outfit? Hate the collar."

One viewer tuning in to watch the funeral asked: "Did Melania grab a choir robe on the way into church?," while another continued: "What's with the white collar on Melania??? is she a member of the choir???"

Another X user wrote: "WTF is she wearing. Was she going for the nun look," with another adding: "Melania Trump wearing the biggest collar I have ever seen. Was she channeling a nun or a cone of shame with that choice."

The look even drew comparisons to the dystopian novel-turned-TV-show The Handmaid's Tale: "Is it me or is Melania Trump giving us #HandmaidsTale at President Carter's funeral??"

Melania also drew attention in 2023 at former First Lady Rosalynn Carter's funeral when she showed up wearing a gray tweed coat and for her infamous "I really don't care. Do u?" jacket during a visit to an immigrant detention center in 2018.

All five living former Presidents were seated together. Melania was seated at the end of the aisle next to her husband, who was looking chummy with former President Barack Obama. The former First Ladies and Vice President Kamala Harris opted for more understated all-black looks. Former First Lady Michelle Obama was not in attendance.
