A state funeral for President Jimmy Carter is being held today in Washington, D. C., which has attracted a roll call of notable figures, including Donald Trump who, despite previous complaints about the funeral affecting his inauguration plans, is present.

Yet, former First Lady Michelle Obama has been noted for her absence, stirring up a storm on social media platforms.

On X, one user expressed displeasure, saying: "Michelle Obama is not at the State funeral for President Carter. She's in Hawaii and I guess she couldn't get her act together to come east. Disgraceful."

On the other hand, another comment read: "Trump is chatting up Obama. Anti-American Michelle Obama didn't show up. Hillary looks like the witch she is Melania. Looks like she'd rather be any place else and everybody looks like they hate each other.", reports the Irish Star.

Others speculated that Michelle might be deliberately skipping the event to avoid sitting next to President-elect Donald Trump, given their frosty rapport. Someone claimed: "Michelle Obama missing President Carters funeral because protocol would've sat her next to Trump. SHE SO REAL".

In another twist, an internet spectator noted: "Trump and Obama have been having non stop conversation while W and Laura, Bill and Hillary enter. Kamala and Doug enter. Obama enters' without Michelle. Is she boycotting the funeral because she didn't want to sit next to Donald? ."

While many might expect that King Charles, 76, or Prince William, 42, would represent the Royal family at the funeral of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who died on December 29, it is actually another Royal who will be making the journey to the U.S. to pay respects.

It has been confirmed that Prince Edward, the King's brother, will attend the funeral representing the British Royal family. The decision to send Edward, 60, is believed to be influenced by several factors, including the fact that Princess Kate, Prince William's wife, is celebrating her 43rd birthday on the same day.
