The Estes Tandem-X Model Rocket Kit

The Tandem X Rocket KitTandem X Launch Set Estes Rockets I take a look at this beginner level rocket kit on this page. It comes with complete materials for two rockets and the launching pad. In order to use these rockets you do need to purchase some additional items and you will need a few basic tools. I will describe all of this for you in this article.

The Tandem X Contents

Here is a look at what comes inside the package.

Rockets and launch pad

And here is a look at exactly what you end up with. The big rocket (AMAZON) is two and a half feet in height. The smaller rocket (Crossfire) is sixteen inches in height. Also shown is the launching pad, the Launch Controller, and the rocketeer manual. The two rockets give you a bit of variety in building because the crossfire is a traditional wood and cardboard style with wooden fins and cardboard engine mount. The Amazon is a newer style rocket with plastic fins and engine mount. So there is a nice little variety that you get when making them..

Additional Rocket Materials you need to get

  • Rocket Engine Wadding - This protects your rocket or parachute from catching on fire. You really should have some of this. Recovery Wadding (100 Sheets)
  • Engines - You can use any of the engines in the listing from sizes A thru D. Here are the recommended engines for the rockets in the kit: The Crossfire rocket: 1/2A6-2, A8-3, B4-2, B4-4, B6-2, B6-4, C6-3, C6-5 . And for the Amazon rocket: B4-2, B4-4, B6-2, B6-4, C6-3, C6-5 . If you want to start out easy get yourself some B4-2 engines and if you want more oompf get some C6-5 engines. They are usable in both rockets. Here is a quick Link to Estes Rocket Engines at Amazon If you want to learn more about rocket engines I have a page about them and how the numbers work.
  • 4 AA Batteries (For the launching Pad) The engines use a small igniter that takes electricity to start them up. Four Alkaline AA Batteries
