HOI AN
GENERAL INTRODUCTION :
HOI AN – where life is so peaceful
HOI AN - where it seems that the
inexorable flow of time can not bury the
ancient atmosphere. The old tiled roofs
covered with moss, the streets filled
with the red color of lanterns, and the
intricately carved horizontal panels all
seem to take us back to a world of
several hundred years ago. That’s just a
simple part of HOI AN ANCIENT TOWN,
but it’s enough to make people fall in
love and lose their way.

4 URBAN ARCHITECTURE
Tran Phu Street is the main street, where the most important architectural works
are concentrated, as well as ancient houses typical of Hoi An architecture. The most
common housing type is one- or two-story tubular houses with narrow width and
very long depth. Each house in Hoi An ensures harmony between living space and
nature, so in addition to arranging the house into compartments, the house's
courtyard is paved with stones and decorated with water tanks, rockeries, and trees.
With unique architecture, the house space in Hoi An is always airy, filled with
sunlight, people and nature seem to become one.The streets in the Old Quarter are
arranged horizontally and vertically in a checkerboard style with short and beautiful
streets, winding, embracing the houses. Walking through each of those beautiful
and peaceful small streets, visitors not only enjoy delicious food but also see a part
of the daily life of Hoi An people, a peaceful, simple life. Visitors can easily see
lanterns of all colorful colors and shapes around the streets and houses.
5 CULTURE
Hoi An culture has cultural interference from Eastern
countries including Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese
culture. There is also interference between ancient
cultures, considered a miniature social picture of three
ancient cultures: Champa, Sa Huynh and Dai Viet
cultures. However, this place still retains the soul of the
Vietnamese people. The tangible and intangible culture
of Hoi An is honored through hut singing sessions,
repartee chanting, culinary culture, traditional music,
lanterns and children's nursery rhymes at Chua Cau,...
All these beauties have created an ancient Hoi An and
the breathing water of the past." The most noticeable
thing when entering Pho Ancient Hoi An (Vietnam) is
countless houses painted in a characteristic yellow
color, associated with the country's historical culture,
signifying destiny, prosperity and solemnity," said
author Rupali Dean.
