1. Introduction
• Electricity appliances have been increased in a
much wider aspect in the modern era. Researchers
call for more concern with another: the driver
behind the environmental hazards, and alternative
energy sources.
• Needless to say, it is an enormous task to cater the
increasing need for power usage. This reduced
electricity availability during peak hours from the
utilities (or unscheduled load-shedding) has led to
problems among consumers in developing nations.
• To adapt to this situation a client needs to invest
more money in fuel generators and battery storage
that is not going to be profitable or otherwise are
going to contribute against the economic

development of our country. Meanwhile, utilities IoT-Enabled Smart Grids
need to spend billions of dollars to build the poles
and lines that allow generating facilities to last
through peak hours without being used nearly as
much.

2. Literature Review
• The proposed concept of Smart Energy Management system is illustrated. The entire
system consists of an SEM unit that provides monitoring and control capabilities to the
consumer and other end users. Description : Smart sockets acquire electrical sensor data
associated with their connected appliances and execute local control & SEM unit's
commands signals.
• The purpose of the SEM unit, is to act as a pipe that carries conversation between
customer and utility. Here, our SEM unit is collecting the data of assigned Maximum
demand limit from Utility through gateway and it will use it as an input. On the other
hand, utility companies collect and analyze the data of energy consumption from each
SEM operating in a city to renew the maximum demand limit assigned to each
household.
• An electronic bill prepared with the data collected for billing would be provided in
every house.Furthermore, the control of microgrid architectures which allow efficient
operation of microgrid has been a long standing problem for lack of appropriate
communication architecture which would permit the evolution of decentralized and
hierarchical control strategies .
• To control functioning of microgrid in less complex way, hierarchical control has
emerged as a standard power paradigm. This architecture includes a stratified structure
of powers with a first, second and third level.

3. Motivation for the Proposed Work
The motivation for the proposed work on
"Integrated Energy Management in IoT-Enabled
Smart Grids" stems from the growing need to
address the inefficiencies and limitations of
traditional energy systems in the face of
evolving demands for sustainability, reliability,
and cost-effectiveness.
As the global shift towards renewable energy
sources accelerates, power grids are becoming
more complex, with variable and decentralized
energy generation sources such as solar, wind,
and microgrids. Simultaneously, the demand for
electricity is increasing, placing greater stress on
existing infrastructure. IoT devices can gather
granular data from various points in the grid, Figure 2: Taxonomy of Advanced
such as energy generation, consumption, and Strategies for Energy
storage, allowing for a more accurate and Management in Smart Grid

4. Proposed Model/Work
• Recommended Control Method for SEMS :
For each Smart Socket unit of a Consumer
Appliance, to connect with the SEM
Gateway, XBee modules are used in AT
mode of communication. In the proposed
method, The SEM gateway acquires energy
consumption data from each of the smart
socket, as well as its assigned Maximum
Demand(MD) limit by the utility.
• Similarly, a definite algorithm of power
negotiation used for scheduling each device
by itself according to its convenience (SEM)
as shown in Fig. Smart Socket Module The Figure 3: A Workflow Methodology
Smart Socket Module and SEM Gateway of for Effective Energy Management in
proposed SEMS incorporate the following IoT-Integrated Environments
algorithms to manage demand side energy
management for efficient energy utilization.

The results indicate that integrating IoT This graph shows 24-hour energy patterns in
capabilities into the SEMS significantly a smart grid with IoT integration. The red
enhances energy management dashed line represents traditional consumption,
performance. The fully integrated system the green line shows IoT-optimized
yields the highest energy savings and user consumption, and the blue dotted line indicates
engagement, showcasing the potential of renewable energy input. The light green area
real-time data and analytics in optimizing highlights potential energy savings achieved

6. Conclusion
• The efficacy and working of the power optimization algorithms included in
controller are demonstrated through experiments, while SEMS hardware prototype
is then developed and implemented under lab environment. The wireless ZigBee
connection is made between the SEM controller and smart socket unit utilizing
XBee series-2 modules.
• In addition, it has a new advanced self-diagnosis system to make sure of creating a
reliable network. These three different loads are taken into account in the first
experiment, highlighting the new dynamic and adaptable priority function. Also,
you may sort the appliances priority if you like.
• Second, this paper presents various experimental cases which reveal the
functioning of only upper level appliance when being operated under MDL
constraints and during DR event.
• In addition, the SEM controller employs various cost optimization algorithms to
schedule operation of an appliance at some off-peak time.
