ICT and its Impact

BY P RA S A N N A 9 ' B '
Introduction to ICT

• ICT, also known as Information and Communications Technology, is the

infrastructure that facilitates the communication of people and
organizations in the digital world.

• Generally, it includes applications, devices, systems, and networking

components that enable modern computing.

• ICT is an acronym that stands for Information and Communications

Technology.

• The first commercial computer was the UNIVAC I, developed by John Eckert
and John W. Mauchly in 1951.

• It was used by the Census Bureau to predict the outcome of the 1952
presidential election.
• ICT offers interactive learning. Information
and communication technology is used
daily by financial companies, to trade
financial instruments, to report a
business's earnings, and to keep records of

ICT in Our personal budgets.

• ICT facilitates communication anywhere,

Personal anytime and by anyone. It has become

Lives easier to communicate worldwide through

the use of ICTs, for example, social media
sites and apps, blogs, wikispace, etc. The
use of ICT is time saving and cost effective
in various ways.

• Digital Payment and Operating Modern

machines comes under ICT in Our Personal
Lives.
ICT's impact on our
Work Life
• Computers and internet access have transformed the way many people
work: businesses rarely produce written letters or reports or use
typewriters any more. Documents are more likely to be sent by email
than by post or fax.

• Employees with laptops or smartphones can work from home or while

they travel.

• The effects of these technologies are holistic in the everyday life of the
population of children and adolescents: they affect their schooling,
physical and mental health, entertainment, socio-cultural development ,
political life, among other aspects.

• It can provide higher-quality products or services, enhance customer

service and the user experience, and reduce waste while improving
productivity for higher profit margins.

• The major benefit of ICT on people is the increased access to services,

and information that has accompanied in the progress of the Internet.
• ICT has a great impact in our daily lives. For
example, we can read our local newspaper
using the online newspaper. Another
example is we still can get connected with
our family, relatives, or colleagues even if
we are abroad by using the electronic mail,

ICT in Daily Life yahoo messenger, call conference, or video

conference.

• Improved access to education, e.g. distance

learning and on-line tutorials. New ways of
learning, e.g. interactive multi-media and
virtual reality. New job opportunities, e.g.
flexible and mobile working, virtual offices
and jobs in the communications industry.
Smartphone vs
Tablet vs
Laptop

What is a Smartphone?

• A smartphone is a cellular telephone with an

integrated computer and other features not
originally associated with telephones, such
as an operating system (OS), web browsing,
and the ability to run software applications.

• Smartphones are used by consumers and as

part of a person's business or work.

• Now we are going to dive deeper and explore

Smartphones to the brim.
Basic Layout of a Mobile
System
Parameters of a Smartphone

• Smartphones are very light and very easy to carry.

• Smartphones have a small screen size.

• Smartphones is a small computer in hand with cellular

telephony and very easy to work with in a stable or
mobile environment.

• Smartphones have a very small battery life.

• A Smartphone is maximum flexible.

• Smartphone productivity is limited because of many

issues like limited power battery, smaller screen size,
less resources, etc.
What is a Tablet ?
• A tablet is a wireless, portable personal computer with a
touchscreen interface. The tablet form factor is typically smaller
than a notebook computer, but larger than a smartphone.

• Tablets let you do many of the same things as a traditional

computer. They can browse the Internet, connect to social network
apps, and display HD videos. They excel at applications that do not
require a large amount of precise user input. Early tablet devices
used light pens or a stylus as their input device.

• Popular uses for a tablet PC include viewing presentations, video-

conferencing, reading e-books, watching movies, sharing
photos and more.
Parameters of a Tablet
• Tablets are thin and light but heavier than a smartphone but still easy
to carry.

• Tablets have larger displays than smartphones.

• A tablet offers better display with smartphones productivity a tablet is

easy to just turn on and use in any environment.

• Most tablets have battery life that is far better than laptops but work
with only mobile batteries.

• A tablet is somewhere between the smartphone and the laptop in

most areas and flexibility is no exception.

• Tablets offer better productivity than smartphones because of larger

displays but have limited battery life and software support is also less
compared to laptops
What is the Laptop ?
• A laptop, sometimes called a notebook computer by manufacturers,
is a battery- or AC-powered personal computer (PC) smaller than a
briefcase. A laptop can be easily transported and used in temporary
spaces such as on airplanes, in libraries, temporary offices and at
meetings.

• Laptops combine many of the input/output components and capabilities

of a desktop computer into a single unit, including a display screen,
small speakers, a keyboard, and a pointing device (such as a touch pad
or pointing stick).

• Especially for smaller business meetings, a laptop serves as a visual aid

that does not require to be hooked up to a projector or require several
wires and fancy gadgets. Laptops actually last for years unlike phones
and tablets that go outdated after new and innovative technology is
introduced
Parameters of a Laptop
• Laptops are much heavier and it takes effort to carry them.

• Laptops have bigger displays than a tablet.

• A laptop requires a specific place to work example it is

comparatively difficult to work with laptops having a mouse in a
fast moving car.

• Laptops fare better on power availability as both battery and

electric power options are available.

• Laptops offer less flexibility as compared to a smartphone and a

tablet.

• Laptops offer the best productivity among these as they have

better power options, larger screen size and all types of
software available.
