RESEARCH
AGENDA
Objective

 Prepare a plan for a

class research agenda
focusing on issues and
ideas in your
respective field.
● Design – to plan and make decisions about
something that is being built or created.

● Research Design – It enables the researcher to

organize the components of his or her research
in an orderly and coherent manner.

● Research Agenda – It is best described as a

format plan of action that summarizes specific
issues and ideas in a subset of any field of study.
Research Topic – the central subject
or issue that a researcher chooses to
investigate. It serves as the
foundation for the entire research
project, guiding the development of
research questions, hypothesis,
methodologies, and ultimately the
conclusions drawn.
To make research more manageable, the following shall
be considered:

1) Aspect (element) - Choose one aspect through which

you look at the research problem. To put it more simply,
look at just one facet of the issue or problem.
2) Components (factors) - determine if your initial
variables or unit of analyses can be divided into more
particular parameters which can then be analyzed more
precisely/exactly/specifically.
3) Curiosity - Choose a topic that you know a little about,
however you have the desire to explore and learn more.
4) Interest - Choose a topic that seems interesting to you.
To make research more manageable, the following shall be
considered:

5) Time and Place --Remember that the smaller the area of analysis, the
narrower the focus. Moreover, the shorter the available time period, the
narrower the focus should be. Narrow down your topic and review it
several times.
6) Type -- Focus your topic in terms of a specific type or class of people,
places, or things.
7) Availability of Resources - Check the availability of references by
visiting online libraries, journals and research gates. Once you realize the
non-availability of resources, change the subject.
8) Significance of the Topic - The research topic chosen must be
significant, and must address a particular problem that will impact the life
of the people in general.
Prepare a research agenda following the steps below. Write
your answer on a separate sheet of paper. ( Group Work)
1. Choose a topic according to your academic choice considering the
criteria in the research topic.
2. Determine the type of research.
3. Identify the methodology to be used in the preparation of the
research agenda.
4. State two importance of your research agenda in the community,
school or society.

A common challenge when beginning to write a research paper is
determining how to narrow down your topic. To assist you in the
selection process, here are some guidelines given by Baraceros
(2016:38-39):
1. INTEREST IN THE SUBJECT MATTER
Being interested in a topic is usually due to the richness of your
stock knowledge about it or because of its familiarity to you.
Curiosity about an issue/topic is one of the factors that motivate
a person to unravel the unknown in a topic. Thus, the
researcher’s interest increases the possibility of the success of
the study.
2. RICHNESS OF AVAILABLE SOURCES OR
SUPPORTING EVIDENCES
One of the things that you should do is to collect a lot of
information on your topic of interest. This enables you to
find evidences that would support your topic. You must
ensure that your sources come from a wide variety of
literature such as books, journal, periodicals, online
articles, etc. Hence, going to the library and surfing the
internet are some of the activities that you should do as a
3. TIMELINESS AND RELEVANCE OF
THE TOPIC

Your topic should be relevant and timely. A

topic is relevant if it serves as an
instrument in improving the society or if it
answers or solves current issues which are
some of the reasons why research is
conducted.
4. LIMITATIONS OF THE SUBJECT
Aside from your interest, you must also
consider the significance of the topic in
your track and strand. Remember that
research is conducted to contribute
something valuable to a particular area or
discipline.
5. PERSONAL RESOURCES
Prior to finalizing your chosen topic, you must assess your
research abilities as a student. You may do so by taking
your financial capability, health condition, personal
qualifications and trainings as a researcher, needed
facilities and time allotment into account. It is important
that all of these aspects are considered in order
for you to guarantee the accomplishment of your
research.
Some guidelines in crafting a Research Title
Specific-precise, detailed, and clearly defined in terms of
objectives.
Measurable-characteristic of a target or objective that can be
quantified
Attainable-achievable, realistic, possible to accomplish given
the resources, skills, and effort
Relevant- significant, applicable or appropriate to the matter
at hand
Time- bound- setting a specific deadline or timeframe to
complete a task
