Introduction

• Ti-6Al-4V or Ti64 is a notable material in the field of engineering.

• Composition 90%Ti, 6%Al, 4%V
• applications include Aerospace industry, Biomedical, marine
industry, automobile industry, etc.
• Due to difficulty in its machinability and increasing demand, AM
methods are being tested.
• We are considering Selective Laser Melting(SLM )for our project.
SLM is an additive manufacturing technology that utilizes lasers to
melt and fuse metal powders layer by layer
The qualities of SLM-ed products depend on process parameters
SLM parameters are: • Laser power(w)
• Layer thickness(
• Scanning speed
• Hatch spacing

Advantages Disadvantages

• Long durability of the material • Temperature gradient can

stress/dislocate parts and
• High strength to weight ratio compromise their structural
integrity
• Minimal material waste
• High cost

• Brittleness
Abstract

• SLM is an efficient AM method for the manufacturing of Ti6Al4V alloy.

• SLM parameters needs to be optimized for yielding required properties
to the product.
• Due to the nature of application of this alloy, the tribological properties
of SLM ed product needs to be studied
• The crystalline structure of the SLM ed product needs to be also studied.
• Effective post processing methods are to be found out.
Aim & objectives

Aim
To study the Tribological properties of Ti-6Al-4V alloy fabricated through SLM and
conduct microstructural analysis.
Objectives
• Fabrication of Ti64 samples by SLM method
• Optimization of process parameters using ML
• Conducting tribological test
• Measuring the Microhardness of the sample.
• Microstructural Analysis using OM and SEM
• Heat treatment
