Introduction

The Umbrella of Water and Sanitation (UWS) is a utility


operator under SUM Division of the Urban Water supply
and Sewerage department.
6 Umbrellas serving sub regions
Coverage
• UWS serve approximately UWS operate and manage
over 4.8m. Popn. in 576 the cesspool trucks
water schemes and 10 – Central (2)
FSM facilities. – North (2)
– central region (4 FSTPs), – South Western (1)
– North (4 FSTPs), – East (1)
– South Western (1 FSTP)
– East (1 FSTP).
Operational Requirements for FSTPs
Human Resource/ personnel Financial Cost centres
Minimum of 2 – Basic maintenance like

– Attendant slashing,

– Guard – Water
– Staff salaries
but with a truck it requires a Plant
manager, Driver and turn-man – Incinerating Solid waste

/operator
Average and Annual sludge volumes
• Monthly ave - 30 cubics
per plant
• But ranges between 5 to
40 Cubics
Annual Aves. 360 cubics to
480 cubics

Way forward
Low emptying demand due Development of minimum standards and enforcing them, as a matter
