Bill of Material Overview

Definitions
• A bill of material is a complete, formally structured list of the components that
form a product or assembly. This list contains the material number of each
component together with the quantity and the unit of measure. The
components are known as BOM-items.

BOM MAINTENANCE(KEY
FIELDS-CS03)
1.Material-A material number
ID.
2. Plant-Plant code where the
BOM exists.
3. BOM usage-Bom type
code which identifies the
Introduction type of BOM. E.g
1=Production; 5=Sales.
4. Alternative BOM-This is a
number assigned a BOM if
more than one alternatives
exist.
5. Validity dates are dates
which indicates when the
BOM can be used.

BOM HEADER(KEY FIELDS-
CS03)
1.Type Material, Plant and
BOM usage and click
header. If Material has more
than one alternative select
alternative number.
2.Base Quantity- Quantity to
Introduction which all component
quantity in a BOM relate.
3.Click item to view
BOM items.

9
BOM ITEMS (KEY FIELDS-
CS03)
1.ICt- Item category for the BOM
component. L for stocked item
is what is used.
2.Component-Material ID for
the BOM item.
3.Description-Material
description which is
Introduction
automatically populated.
4.Quantity- Quantity of the
component, which is entered
in relation to the base quantity
of the product.

BOM ITEMS (KEY FIELDS-
CS03)
5.Un-Unit of measure which
always default to base unit of
measure.
6.Asm-Assembly indicator. If
ticked, it means the
component has its own BOM.

BOM MAINTENANCE
Big Rules
• The BoM is linked directly to a material parent.
• The structure of the BOM is defined by:
• BoM types
• 1 Production. 2. Engineering/Design
• 3 Universal 4. Plant Maintenance
• 5 Sales 6. Costing

• BoM item categories:

• L - Stock item
• M - Phantom material
• N - Non-stock item
• T - Text item
BOM MAINTENANCE
Big Rules (continued)
• A BOM structure consists of a header and items.
• Header: This includes the parent of the BOM.
• Items: Items are the different components, which form the object for
which the BOM has been created.
• BoM items can be:
• Raw materials:
• Packaging materials: bottles, label, caps
• Operating supplies: glue, adhesive tape, wrapping foil, pallet
• Formulated/Bulk Materials
• Semi-finished product
• Finished product (A finished product can be included as item of
another finished product).
