The Power of

Flower
Flowers are the reproductive organs
for angiosperms (flowering plants).
The stamen and pistil are the essential
parts needed to make a seed because
they produce the gametes or sex cells
(sperm and egg cells) for reproduction.
MALE REPRODUCTIVE PARTS OF
A FLOWER
- The stamen is the male
reproductive organ or part of
a flower. It consists of
filament
and anther. The number of
petals is usually the same as
the number of stamens. All
stamens together form the
androecium.
Two Parts of Stamen
1. anther - produces a yellowish or
reddish powder called pollen grains
which contain the male gametes (sperm
cells).

2. filament – is a slender stalk that

supports the anther.
FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE PARTS OF
A FLOWER
• The pistil is the female reproductive
organ or part of a flower. It is located
in the center of the flower and is
usually surrounded by stamens. It is
made up of the stigma, style, and
ovary. The set of a flower’s pistil in
known as gynoecium.
Three Parts of Pistil
1. stigma - the sticky and swollen part that catches
pollen grains.
2. style – a slender tube that connects the stigma to
the ovary.
3. ovary – the enlarged bottom portion of pistil that
contains one or many ovules. The ovule is
in the inner part of the ovary that contains
the female gamete or egg cell and becomes
seed after fertilization.
Accessory Parts of a Flower
1. petals - the colorful part of a flower
that attracts insects and protects the
lower parts where seeds are made of.
The collective term for petals is called
corolla.
2. sepals - are modified leaves which
enclose and protect the other parts of
a flower when it is still a bud. A group
of sepals is called calyx.
3. receptacle - is the enlarged upper
end of flower stalk which bears the
flower or group of flowers.

4. peduncle - a stalk bearing the

flower or is also known as a stem.
