    Definition
    A. Caption
    Caption is brief explanation to an article, illustration,
    cartoon, poster, in other words, a caption is a brief
    description accompanying an illustration.
    B. Proverb
    Proverb is a brief and specific phrase that reflects a
    reality based on common sense or human
    experience.
    Social Function
    Social function of a caption such are to explain
    what is shown in a picture or illustration, to identify
    the subject of the picture, to draw attention to
    something in the image that is not obvious and to
    help the reader understand information that may
    not be in the text.
    Generic structure & Language features

    Generic structure of caption:


    • The title
    • The lead
    • Section Heading
    Language features caption:
    • Use present tense
    • When identifying members of group, write “from left”
    • A caption should complete the picture
    • Do not use “above” or “picture here”
    • Do not begin the caption with names
    Rule and how to write a caption

    Rule of writing a caption:


    • Supply specific information (Answering 5W+1H Question)
    • Use present tense on the first sentence
    • Caption are written in a complete sentence
    • Clearly identify the people and location in the photo
    • Identify the person from left to right
    How to write a caption:
    • Observe the picture or video you will give the caption
    • Find out the message that will be sent from the picture before you write a caption
    • Write sentence or phrase under the picture

    Type of caption

    1. Identification bar: Jenis caption ini hanya menyebutkan siapa yang berada di gambar.
    2. Cutline: Jenis caption ini menyebutkan siapa yang berada di gambar dan apa yang
    dilakukannya.
    3. Summary: Berisi penjelasan lengkap tentang siapa, apa, kapan, dimana, dan kenapa hal
    tersebut dilakukan.
    4. Expanded: Bentuk lebih lengkap dari summary, jenis ini juga memuat bagaimana kejadiannya
    dan kutipan.
    5. Quote: Berisi kutipan perkataan seseorang yang berhubungan dengan gambar.
    6. Group identification: Sama seperti identification, hanya saja jenis ini digunakan apabila
    gambar memuat lebih dari satu orang.
