Hyperbolic Paraboloid
> The consistent saddle shape is
mathematically known as a hyperbolic
paraboloid.
> Their designers reportedly used
supercomputers to ensure that the chips'
aerodynamics would keep them in place
during packaging and that they would not
break when being stacked on top of each
other.
Research
A careful consideration of
study regarding a particular
concern or problem using
scientific methods.
“Research is a
systematic inquiry
to describe, explain,
predict, and control
the observed
phenomenon.
Research involves
inductive and
deductive methods.”
(Earl Robert Babbie)
Research
A systematic and
refined technique of
thinking and employing
specialized instruments
and procedures to solve a
problem.
( Claudio and De leon)
Quantitative and Qualitative
Research
Quantitative Research
involves the process of
objectively collecting and
analyzing numerical data
to describe, predict, or
control variables of
interest.
Quantitative Research
The design of the study is
determined before it begins.
Research is used to test a
theory and ultimately
support or reject it.
Limitations of Quantitative
Variability of data quantity: Large
sample sizes are needed for more
accurate analysis. Small scale
quantitative studies may be less
reliable because of the low quantity
of data (Denscombe, 2010). This
also affects the ability to generalize
study findings to wider populations.
Strengths of
Quantitative Research
Scientific objectivity: Quantitative data
can be interpreted with statistical
analysis, and since statistics are based
on the principles of mathematics, the
quantitative approach is viewed as
scientifically objective, and rational
(Carr, 1994; Denscombe, 2010).
Ethics in Research
Ethical considerations in
conducting research
1. Objectivity and integrity
2. Respect of the research subjects‘
right to privacy and dignity and
protection of subjects from
personal harm
3.Presentation of research
findings
Ethical considerations in
conducting research
4. Misuse of research role
5.Acknowledgement of
research collaboration and
assistance
6.Distortions of findings
by sponsor
Research Topic
* Choose something that
interests
you
* Narrow it down
* Think of subtopics that you are
knowledgeable at
•Timely Topic – select a topic that is
currently relevant for research gaps.

•Interesting Topic – pick a subject that

interests you, something enjoyable to do.

•Novel Topic – choose an undiscovered

topic to add novelty to study.
Formulating Research Title: B-N-L Method

Broad Topic – The general topic you came

up with using T.I.N

Narrowed Topic – Specifics of the topic you

want to study

Limited Topic- localize the specific topic and

set your limitations hence the title
