HISTORICAL LOCAL FAMOUS
PLACES AROUND GUJARAT
SUDAMA TEMPLE – PORBANDAR
 The Sudama temple was built in the period of 1902 to
1907.
 It also has another monument in the green complex,
which has been constructed in the memory of
Sudama.
 Constructed in the early 20th century,
the Sudama temple stands in the middle of the
bustling market area of Porbandar.
 The light pink temple stands amidst a copes of trees,
which offer shade to the visitors.
KIRTI MANDIR - PORBANDAR
 Kirti Mandir is the memorial temple built in
memory of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and
Kasturba Gandhi
 located in city of Porbandar, Gujarat, India.
 The ancestral house of Gandhi family, where
Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 is
just adjacent to the Kirti Mandir.
 Situated on Kasturba Road, it is one of the popular
monuments of heritage in India, and among the
prime Porbandar places to visit
SON KANSARI – BHANVAD
 Temple of Son Kansari is associated with story
of “sati”, built after Ghumli was destroyed due
to the curse.
 This place is located south westerly to
Navlakha temple on a hill summit.
 There is a nice pond in front of the temple.
 Around Sonkansari pond, there is a large well
with many temples.
 The place is in the middle of barda forest of
Bhanvad.
UPERKOT – JUNAGADH
 These caves located at Uperkot beyond the 300 ft
deep moat, close to Adi Kadi Vav, were carved in
2nd–3rd century A.D.
 These caves have influence of Sat vahana architecture
with combination of Graeco-Scythian style.
 Uperkot caves, are ancient man-made caverns. The
caves are a part of the Junagadh Buddhist Cave
Groups situated in the eastern part of Junagadh of
the Indian state of Gujarat.
 There is a Kunda, a deep tank about 11 feet square,
with a covered verandah round three sides of it. There
is a big chamber with six pillars supporting the roof
adjoining it.
NAULAKHA PALACE - GONDAL
 The Naulakha Palace, the oldest extant
palace in Gondal, India.
 Dating back to the 18th century during the
reign of Haloji Sagramji. with a "sculpted
facade" is a part of the Darbargardh fort
complex.
 It is named "Navlakha" meaning rupees "nine
lakhs" which was the cost of building it at that
time.
 It has very exclusive architectural features of
arcades, jharokas, a royal audience hall…….
KHAPRA KODIYA CAVES - JUNAGADH
 The Khapra Kodiya Caves are part of
the Junagadh Buddhist Cave Group. The
caves, on the basis of scribbles and short
cursive letters on the wall, are dated to 3rd-
4th century BCE during the king Ashoka's
rule and are the plainest of all the caves in
the groups.
 These caves are also known as Khangar
Mahal. They were carved in rock during
the reign of Emperor Ashoka and are
considered the earliest monastic settlement
in the area.
DHANK CAVES – DHANK
 The Dhank Caves are located near Dhank
village near Upleta, Rajkot district, Gujarat,
India.
 They were chiseled out of a calcareous
sandstone outcropping during the regime of
the Western Satraps.
 The caves are influenced by Buddhist and
Jain cultures. The Jain cave includes figures
of Adinatha, Shanti Nath and Pārśva.
 They were chiseled out of a calcareous

JAMBAVAN CAVE - RANAVAV
 It is believed that jambhavanth did
meditation for shiva here and also fight
with Shri Krishna for sramanthaka mani
happened here.
 This cave is located at Ranavav taluka
of Porbandar district, near Saurashtra
cement factory.
 It's located almost 15 Km away from
Porbandar city.
 A naturally cool with its own built and
self-sustained ecosystem, the Jambavan
Cave is.
NAVLAKHA TEMPLE - GHUMLI
 Navlakha Temple at Ghumli was built by Jethwa
rulers.
 In 11th century dedicated to Sun god, Surya and
is oldest sun temple of Gujarat.
 It has the largest base (Uagati) of the temples in
Gujarat, measuring 45.72 x 30.48 m. Facing
East, it had a beautiful entrance arch or Kirti
Toran, that is now lost.
 This place is in middle of bhanvad and
Porbandar.
BHADRA FORT - AHMEDABAD
 Bhadra Fort is also home to Sidi Syed
Mosque and its proximity to Teen
Darwaja makes it one of the most
visited places in Ahmedabad.
 Located at the walled city of
Ahmedabad, the 44 acre-Bhadra
fort was built in 1411 by Ahmed Shah I
(first)
 the walling is said to have been
established to protect the kingdom from
enemies.
SIDI SAIYYED MOSQUE - AHMEDABAD
 Popularly known as Sidi Saiyyed Ni
Jaali, the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque was built
in Ahmedabad and is one of the most
popular and beautiful mosques located
in Ahmedabad.
 the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque is a renowned
historical site in Ahmedabad. This
mosque, constructed in the year 1573.
 built in the 16th century, is perhaps
among the most famous historical
landmarks in Gujarat.
BHDRESHVAR JAIN TEMPLE - KUTCH
 Bantvijaya Chronicles, a 19th-century
Jain scripture composed by Acharya
Bantvijaya, the temples date back to
516 BCE (Vira Nirvana Samvat
12)during the reign of Raja Siddha Sen.
 Also called as Vasai Jain Temple, this
ancient temple is believed to be one of
the oldest temples in India. Surrounded
by 44 shrines, the temple’s magnificent
façade is a sight to behold.
PALITANA TEMPLES - BHAVNAGAR
 The Palitana temples are the large groups
of Jain temples located on Shatrunjaya hills
near Palitana in Bhavnagar district, Gujarat ,
India.
 Also known as Padliptapur of Kathiawad in
historic texts, the dense collection of over 800
small shrines and large temples here has led
many to call Palitana as a "city of temples"
 It is one of the most sacred sites
of Svetambara tradition within Jainism.
 These temples were built in and after the
11th century CE.
SUN TEMPLE - MODHERA
 The Sun Temple of Modhera is a Hindu temple
dedicated to the solar deity Surya located
at Modhera village of Mehsana district of Gujarat India.
 It is situated on the bank of the river Pushpavati. It was
built after 1026-27 CE during the reign of Bhima I of
the Chauluky dynasty. No worship is offered now and is
protected monument maintained by Archaeological
Survey of India.
 The temple complex has three
components: Gūḍhamanḍapa, the shrine
hall; Sabhamanḍapa, the assembly hall and Kunḍa, the
reservoir. The halls have intricately carved exterior and
pillars. The reservoir has steps to reach the bottom and
numerous small shrines.
BAI HARIR SULTANI STEPWELL - AHMEDABAD

 Bai Harir Sultani Stepwell is a 15th


century stepwell in Asarwa area 15 km
off Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.
 The stepwell was built in 1485
by Dhai Harir, a household lady
of Mahmud Begada according to the
Persian inscription in the stepwell. She
was the superintendent of the royal harem.
 Dhai Harir built a mosque and a tomb in
which she was buried. The well bears two
inscriptions, one in Sanskrit on the south,
and one in Arabic on the north wall, of the
first gallery
HUTHEESING TEMPLE - AHMEDABAD
 Hutheesing Temple is a Jain temple
in Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India. It was
constructed in 1848 by the Hutheesing
family.
 The temple blends the old Maru-
Gujarat temple architecture style with new
architectural elements of haveli in its
design.
 The construction of the temple was
originally planned and initiated by
Hutheesing Kesari Sinh, a wealthy trader of
Ahmedabad.
 Following his death at the age of 49, the
construction was supervised and completed
by his wife, Har Kunwar.
ASHOK SHILA LEKH - JUNAGADH
 Large boulder inscribed with Buddhist
edicts dating to circa 250 BC, on the
order of Emperor Ashoka.
 he Major Rock Edicts of Ashoka are
inscribed on large rocks, except for the
Kandahar version in Greek (Kandahar
Greek Edict of Ashoka), written on a
stone plaque belonging to a building.
 The Major Edicts are not located in the
heartland of Mauryan territory,
traditionally centered on Bihar, but on the
frontiers of the territory controlled by
Ashoka.
DHOLA VIRA - BHACHAU
 Dating back to the Indus Valley
Civilization era, AKA Harappan
culture, Dhola Vira is a 4500 year
old excavation site.
 This is one of the most famous
heritage sites in Gujarat, which was
discovered by Mr. J.P. Joshi in 1967.
 The site is located in Bhachau
Taluka, Kutch. So, this is an
unmissable tourist attraction if you
are attending the , held during the
