definition of alchoholic
Alcoholics cannot be separated from the term alcoholism. Definition of alcoholism can be
defined as a lifestyle of cultivating alcohol or an addiction to alcohol. According to the
World Health Organization (WHO) what is meant by Alcoholism is a form of dependence on
alcoholic beverages or alcohol to a certain extent, so that a person shows mental and
physical symptoms, disrupts his relationship with others, undermines a social behavior and
position.

There are two types of alchoholism namely:


• Chronic alcoholism
• Acute alcoholism
Other Drug Use Associated
with Alcohol Dependence
Other drug use is commonly associated with alcohol use and
dependence. For instance, more than half of those identified as
alcoholics will have at least one other drug dependence. At least 80% of
alcoholics are dependent on nicotine, with the vast majority smoking
cigarettes. Most cocaine addicts use alcohol, and many qualify for
alcohol dependence, as do most heroin addicts.
