Referees can keep the game flowing smoothly by using a combination of


whistles and volleyball hand gestures. It helps viewers and players to
comprehend the action during the match and the outcome of each rally. As a
referee, signals are your language.
AUTHORIZATION TO

The official indicates that the
server may now serve.

TEAM TO SERVE/POINT
AWARDED
Points to the side of the team that scores a
point and they will serve.

TIME-OUT

If a player makes a blocking fault, the

DOUBLE CONTACT

consecutively or the ball hits various parts

FOUR HITS
If a team hits the ball four times before
returning it, the referee raises four fingers,
spread open.
POSITIONAL OR ROTATIONAL FAULT

It is when the service is not made according to the
service order. The referee will make signals by
making a circular motion with the forefinger. It is

also called the Service Order Fault or Out of
Rotation.

NET TOUCHED BY PLAYER


If a player touches the net during play, the
referee indicates the relevant side of the net
with the corresponding hand.

When the ball lands in the court within the boundary

lines, this ball is indicated "in." Signal by extending
the arm with hand open toward the court. The arm
should be 45 degrees away from the body. Then
