Performance Marketing

Meaning:
Performance-based marketing is a marketing method where price is
depending on the performance of the ad.
For example, the cost of an ad might be based upon how often it’s
viewed on a webpage, how often it’s actually clicked, how often it
actually generates a lead, or how often it results in a sale.
Types of Performance Marketing:

Affiliate Marketing, Search Engine Marketing and Email Marketing

 Affiliate Marketing: Affiliate marketing is when you sell somebody else's product
online for a commission.
 Search Engine Marketing: A type of performance marketing that involves placing
ads on search engine research pages.

emails to a specific audience.
Who all are Involved?

 Cost per Impression (CPM)
Impressions are views of your ad. Here you pay for every thousand views (so if 25,000 people view your ad, for
example, you’d pay your base rate times 25).
CPM consists banner ads and pop-up/pop-under ads.
This is the weakest form of advertisement—because there’s still no guarantee that the audience will respond to
the ad as it can be irrelevant.

 Cost per click (CPC)

Advertisers are paid based on the number of times their ad is clicked on. This is a good way to drive traffic to
your site.
CPC is a better option, since
• companies only pay when customers actually respond to the ad.
• CPC ads work best when posted with relevant content which is to advertise with a search engine like Google
 Cost per Lead (CPL)
Cost per lead (CPL) means a merchant pays when it receives a completed form registration containing
customer information, including name, email address, and phone number .
 Cost per Sales (CPS)
With CPS, you only pay when you make a sale that was driven by an ad.

 Cost per Registration (CPR)

This is the average amount of money you spend to acquire a new user who signs up for your product or
service.

 Cost per Action Taken (CPAT)

CPAT means when user takes any action on the application downloaded via our platform.
Server Postback Tracking
“Postbacks” are the URLs that are used to transfer the conversion information.
Server postback tracking—also called “postback tracking” and “server-side tracking”—is the
method of tracking conversions that uses the advertiser’s server rather than the user’s browser.
Process of Server Postback Tracking:
Pixel Tracking
Pixel tracking is the method of tracking conversions that use the user’s browser.
 Tracking pixels usually take the form of small 1×1 squares and are designed to be transparent
or at least to blend in with the background of the page they appear on.

How does it work?

 Tracking pixels are intentionally hidden in the background of a web page or
email so that they are not part of the user experience.
 The intention behind this is to enable a back-end process that does not distract
from the content of a website or marketing email.
 Tracking pixels are embedded in the HTML code of a website, online ad, or
marketing email and are retrieved from the server every time a user loads that
website, ad, or email into their web browser.
The server then sends the pixel tag to the user's unique IP address and logs it. The server thus
counts the number of retrievals.

 Companies and websites use tracking pixels to gather data on user behavior, such as their shopping
patterns, and optimize their content accordingly.
 User information helps businesses to work out what the most effective marketing strategies are,
making it less likely that they’ll waste money on ineffective ads and email campaigns.
