    INTRODUCTION
     M.D.F is an important part of the
    exchange.In order to obtain flexibility
    in interconnection of external line
    plants and exchange equipment and
    between other excahnge
    circuits,M.D.F is used.

     M.D.F is a vertical frame made up of


    steel on which cable coming from
    field side and exchange side is
    terminated

    It has vertical rows upon which cable termination
    (C.T) boxes are installed.On one vertical row 10 C.T.
    boxes can be installed.On C.T box 10 modules are
    there.On one module 10 pairs of wires can be
    connected i.e. 10 telephone connections can be
    provided and from 1 C.T box 100 telephone lines can
    be connected.
    • Cable used on field side is called jelly
    filledcable.This jelly filled cables are of 50,100,200
    and 400 pairs are used.Color scheme is also used
    to distinguish between different pair of cables of
    different capacity.

    Exchange side M.D.F has horizontal rows on
    which C.T boxes are installed.C.T box on
    exchange side has 8 modules and on one module 8
    pair of wires can be terminated.Therefore, on
    exchange side 64 telephone connections can be
    provided on one C.T. box.
    Cable which is terminated on the C.T
    box comes from base module and line
    module located on switch module.
    Cable used for termination on
    exchange side is multi-cable.It is a 64
    pair cable.
    If fault occurs inside the exchange then
    we check LINE CIRCUIT CARDS
    known as LCC.

     The process of laying jumper wire
    from exchange side to field side is
    called jumpering.For the process of
    jumpering we use insertion tool.
