• The INDIVIDUAL STARS (Who were the best players of the game? How did
they uplift their teams?)
WRITING FROM THE DETAILS

Preview an upcoming game or match
• How do the two teams match up?
• What makes this game special?
• Look for the most interesting short-term angle
• VERY timely
FOR GAME STORIES
Summarizes a game or a match
• USE the inverted pyramid
• Lead includes outcome and basics
• Identify the game’s defining moments
• Include a quote from player or coach -- Look for the emotional response
• End with what is next for the team (Hence)

FOR GAME STORIES
LEAD SHOULD INCLUDE:
Who won, who lost and how did it happen? (What fashion?)
What was at stake? Was it a championship? An elimination? How does the result
affect the tournament? What sports event happened?
Where and when did it happen?

FOR GAME STORIES
SUPPORTING PARAGRAPHS should/ may include:
• The winning highlight. (What punch was landed? What decided the match?)
• Play by play highlights. (Choose the most impactful plays)
• Statements from key persons (Best player for winning or losing team,
winning/ losing coach, manager)
• What will happen next to both teams?
• Score box, if needed.
