LAWS of BADMINTON
Scoring System
• A match consists of the best of 3 games of 21
points.
• Every time there is a serve – there is a point
scored.
• The side winning a rally adds a point to its score.
• At 20 all, the side which gains a 2 point lead first,
wins that game.
• At 29 all, the side scoring the 30th point, wins
that game.
• The side winning a game serves first in the next
game.
• The third game will be played to 15 points.

• Malvinne Ann Venice Alcala
Alcala won three silver medals at the 2008 Palarong
Pambansa in the Philippines. In 2011, she competed in the South East
Asia Games and was the fifth in the ranking with the team

(born 9 September 1969) is a Filipino badminton player who
competed in the women's singles at the 1996 Summer Olympics
• Paula Lynn Cao Hok
is a Filipino-American badminton player who was originally from
Dumaguete, Philippines. In 2015, she won the women's doubles gold
medals at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada partnered
with Eva Lee. In 2016, she competed at the Summer Olympics in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil.
• Karyn Cecilia Velez
• was a Filipino-American badminton player who competed
in international level events. Velez died of serious injuries in a head-
on car crash aged 23. The van driver who struck her vehicle pleaded
guilty for homicide after he was charged for reckless driving. Before
her death, she was aiming to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

• Philip Joper Escueta
Filipino badminton player. Escueta and his
partner in men's doubles, Ronel Estanislao, won a bronze
medal in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games
• Paul Jefferson Javier Vivas
is a Filipino badminton player. He achieved his
career-high ranking of 51 in men's doubles on the BWF
World Ranking in 2015.
• Christian Bernardo
In his junior career, he partnered with Alvin
Morada and entered the finals of the 2015 Victor
Australian Junior International. They also won the boys'
doubles title at the Singapore Youth International Series in
2015.

side of the body.
2. BACKHAND STROKE
refer to any shot struck on the
side away from the racket (left-side
for right-handed and the ride side for
the left-handed).

used when the approaching
shuttle is low and in front of the
player.
4. OVERHAND/OVERHEAD STROKE
used to return the shuttle with
a high trajectory coming from the
opponent’s court when the shuttle

FOOTWORK
0ne characteristics of a good badminton player is
effective footwork.
FOOTWORK INCLUDES THE STANCE YOU ASSUME WHILE
WAITNG FOR THE OPPONENT.
 Ready position
the step you take in getting into position to stroke
the shuttle
 Moving into Hitting position
the relationship of the feet during the hitting action
 Footwork during the Hitting Action
returning to base before your opponents hits again
 Footwork during recovery
it is efficient to recover with a long step with a racket
foot, followed by shuffle steps as needed.

GRIP
A wrist snap is very important for proper play so
the grip must be held in such a way that the greatest
amount of wrist action is possible.
2 KINDS OF GRIP

1. FOREHAND GRIP
this is popularly called the handshake grip for it
means the palm to be parallel to face of the racket.

2. BACKHAND GRIP
this slightly modified version of the forehand
grip. It can be varied depending on the type of shot being
hit.
