Interim assignments &
exams
• The final mark will consist of:
• Midterm Test – 20% (October 16-21)
• Exam Test – 30% (December 11-15)
• Home Reading– 16.66 % (October 23-27)
• TED Presentation – 16.66% (November
13-17)
• Tasks for evaluation: - 16.66% (Throughout
the semester)
Important information
• Attendance, active participation, meeting the
deadlines – extra 10%;
To get credit, the student will be assessed for
all the tasks/parts of the final grade;
• Negative evaluation of any task = negative Final
evaluation

• Exact dates of the assignments will posted on


Moodle 2 weeks prior to each interim task;
Home reading
• Any book/article (40 pages) related to your
studies;
• Each student presents a chosen chapter/ a part
of a book, prepares a handout (i.e. the summary
of the main ideas, schemes, quotations,
illustrations, etc.) which can help while presenting
and finally leaves it for the lecturer;
• Each student speaks for about 10-15 minutes. It
must be a presentation of the material analyzed
independently. Slides are necessary.
Home reading
• NOTE: for missing the deadline, the mark will be
lowered by 2 points.

• NOTE: Reading is not allowed! If the presenter
is too paper-dependent, the task is not
accepted and not evaluated.

• NOTE: Presentation itself – 9 points, a handout –
1 point.

TED PRESENTATIONS

• The subject of the presentation should focus on


the following areas:
• Education
• Culture
• Innovation and Invention

• NOTE: More detailed requirements for the


presentation will be posted on Moodle
TED PRESENTATIONS
• Choose one of the subject-related TED.com
presentations;
• Analyze it and make a plan/have an idea how to present it
to the class;
• Follow the obligatory parts of a presentation;
• You watch the chosen TED.com presentation and prepare
your talk;
• NOTE: for missing the deadline, the mark will be lowered
by 2 points.
• NOTE: Reading is not allowed! If the presenter is too
paper-dependent, the task is not accepted and not
evaluated.
TASKS FOR EVALUATION

• You will get different tasks during our lectures.


For each of these you will be evaluated and a
cumulative mark will be counted at the end of
semester.
• The tasks may include:
• Creative tasks;
• Speaking tasks;
• Grammar/ Vocabulary/ Idioms/ Phrases/
Prepositions, etc.
Example and the 1st task:

• Choose a country/ countries for your presentation


on Education or Culture/ Communication.
• Present information about Education or Culture/
Communication of the chosen country/ countries.
• A student speaks for about 10-12 minutes. If
delivered in pairs – for about 15 minutes. Slides
are necessary.
