Adverbial Phrase
• An adverbial phrase is a group of words that adds further detail to a
sentence. This is done by including a ‘when’, ‘where’ or ‘how’.

• This morning, the boy jumped over the fence.


• The boy jumped over the fence in the backyard.
• The boy jumped carefully over the fence.

• Your turn, write a sentence that includes an adverbial phrase.


Compound Sentences
A compound sentence contains two independent
clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction.

Example:
Scott was playing tennis so Mia went for a run.

main clause + conjunction + main clause
Compound Sentences – Class Activity

• Pronouns are words used to refer to people or things.

Punctuation
A sentence always start with a capital letter.
Proper nouns are special names of people, places and days. They are
always written with capital letters.
