System overview
• The role of the circulating water system is to
provide a continuous supply of cooling water to
the main condenser in order to remove the heat
rejected by the turbine exhaust and auxiliary
systems.
• It also maintains a high vacuum in the
condenser to achieve normal circulation of
steam in a power plant.
• The system also supplies cooling water to some
auxiliary equipment in the main building such
as closed cycle cooling water coolers, vacuum
pump etc.
System overview

• Technical process of circulating water system is as

follows:

• Circulating water pump → hydraulic-control check

butterfly valve → CW supply pipe →condenser
and auxiliary coolers return pipe →induced draft
cooling tower →water collecting basin → gravity
return trench → suction basin of cooling water
pump station→ brush screen cleaner→ CW pump.
System overview
Circulating water pumps

• 3×50% (BMCR Condition) vertical mixed flow

Circulating water pumps will be installed for 2
working and 1 standby.

• Pump use the external clean industrial water

lubricating (Flow: 65m³/h , Pressure : 0.15-
0.3Mpa) and using the water from the pump outlet
to lubricate pump guide bearing and filling seal
parts, also to cool the motor.

Circulating water pumps

• Motor and pump directly connected, single-base

installation, outlet under the base layer; Water intake
by vertically downward suction bell, and horizontal
spit.

• The down parts of the pump is submerged in water,

using water-lubricated guide bearing, with shaft
protective pipe separate the clean lubricating water
and pump delivery water.
Mechanical Cooling Tower
• Circulating water system of power plant adopts
circulating water supply system with mechanical
draft cooling tower.

• One coal-fired unit is equipped with one set of

mechanical ventilation cooling towers, which is
composed of 17 units, 16 for use and 1 for standby,
with a total of one set of cooling towers (17 units).

• This unit is of the counter flow type mechanical draft

cooling tower.
Mechanical Cooling Tower
• Induced draught cooling towers uses the fan, which is
installed at the top of the tower. This produces low
entering and high exiting air velocities, reducing the
possibility of recirculation in which discharged air flows
back into the air intake.

• The cooling water quantity of each cooling tower group is

84800m3/h, and that of each cooling tower unit is 5300
m3/h. One group of mechanical ventilation cooling
towers is arranged in a single row. Mechanical draft
cooling tower is arranged outdoors
Mechanical Cooling Tower
• The water pool of each cooling tower is divided
into independent units. Axis dimension of single
cooling tower is 20 (long axis of air inlet side) m.
20 (short axis direction) m, 17 cooling towers are
divided into a group and arranged in a line.

• The sum of water supply height of cooling tower +

head loss of water distribution system + pressure
required by sprinkler is not more than 10.76m.

Rubber ball cleaning device
 A condenser tube cleaning system (hereafter simply
tube cleaning system) is a closed recirculating loop in
which sponge cleaning balls (hereafter cleaning balls)
are injected into the condenser cooling water.
 The cleaning balls pass through the tubes and polish
and clean the inner tube surface. The cleaning balls
are then collected by ball strainer that is located
downstream from the condenser tubes and re-injected
by a ball recirculating pump through ball injection
nozzle installed on the condenser cooling water inlet
pipes.
