INTRODUCTION
The study of writing is defined as graphology. Graphology and handwriting analysis
can be classified as a subgroup of psychology research. Handwriting is unique in
nature, no two people cannot have identical handwriting, although there can be
striking similarities. Each author has unique traits that can change based on age,
Experience, and physical or mental states.

The work mainly focuses on the handwriting analysis process to identify a person's
personality from their handwritten documents, examining handwriting features
such as baseline, slope, pressure, size, font, letter spacing, word spacing, margins,
etc. to reveal a person's personality.
METHODOLOGY
Some common features of handwriting that can be used to predict personality
traits are :-
 Baseline
 Size of letters
 Writing pressure
 Spacing
 Slant
 Margins
 Rhythm
 Pressure
1. Zones
The handwriting is segregated into three zones.
These three zones define the balance between the
ego development of the writer, the intelligentsia and
metaphysical sphere of the individual.

The dominant UZ a demanding conscience, depressed, finds little

joy in life, under pressure

The dominant MZ Irritated, low superego, antisocial, rigid

The dominant LZ Restless, unsatisfied, materialistic
2. Baseline
An imaginary line on which letters reside is
known as Baseline. The baseline helps
determine a writer’s emotional state of mind.

Straight emotional stability, with a good sense of balance, Straight

baseline self-discipline, and organized

Rigid disciplined sense of duty and obligation

baseline dominates their feelings, usually dull personality

downward nature, pessimistic outlook on life

Upward
Irregular adaptable, poor self-discipline, don’t have
baseline control over their emotions, moody, restless

Sharp downward

The slant of the writing conveys about emotional
responsiveness of the writer.

reservoir of drive and energy the writer possesses.
Heavy

firm and easily excited to hot-blooded
actions, can inspire others, can be stern,
stubborn Light
Medium pressure healthy vitality, willpower
Light pressure Sensitive, impressionable, great creative
ability, willpower is not strong, easily
succumb to the dominance of a heavier
writer.
5. Margin of writing

inner organization. Wide
Wide spacing Remains isolated, difficult in
communication Narrow
Narrow spacing Attention seeker, selfish in their
demands, crave closeness
DISCUSSION
Conclusions

Research shows that our handwriting originates not from the hand, as we might
expect, but from the brain. The state of the brain at the time of writing has a direct
influence on what appears on the page. Graphology is also unobtrusive and non-
invasive, especially when compared with other evaluation techniques, as far as we
know – no two people have the same handwriting.
Although graphology is an established science, the accuracy of handwriting
analysis is found to be around 90% correct prediction because of the human error
and ambiguity in the handwriting sample. In the present study, it has been
reviewed and conclusively stated that graphology is having great importance in the
investigation of various cases related to the handwriting analysis.
CASE STUDY
John Dillinger, American criminal who was
perhaps the most famous bank robber in
U.S. history, known for a series of robberies
and escapes from June 1933 to July 1934.

Characteristics observed in his handwriting:-

 Very inclined
 Sharp down ward base
 High pressure
 Poor rhythm
