A WAY TO A HAPPY FAMILY
•Family is the foundation of society which is primarily responsible for shaping the lives of its members. •It is expected that every family has its own members who are willing to help one another and accept who the members are. •Today, most people don’t realize the importance of family; they prefer to spend most of their time with their friends. •Have you imagine yourself dating, courting or being courted, and getting married? INFATUATION INFATUATION OR CRUSH • The state of being completely carried away by unreasoning passion or love • Addictive love • Usually occurs at the beginning of relationships when sexual attraction is central ATTRACTION ATTRACTION • Admiration for someone that may include the desire to get to know that person better. • Usually takes place in the form of infatuation or crush • Infatuation is admiration for someone while not recognizing that person’s flaws. LOVE LOVE •Love is deep affection for someone and is based on a true desire for the other person’s best interests COURTSHIP COURTSHIP •The period in a couple’s relationship which precedes their engagement and marriage or it is an establishment of an agreed relationship of a more enduring kind COURTSHIP • During courtship a couple gets to know each other and decides if there will be an engagement or such agreement. • Courtship is a stage of not simply knowing the person but also a test of compatibility between two persons. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR COUPLES TO UNDERGO COURTSHIP? DATING DATING • Is a social activity which involves two or more people generally assessing each other’s suitability for a potential relationship • It is an act of meeting and engaging in some mutually agreed upon social activity, together as a couple. TYPES OF DATING 1. Standard date – involves two people 2. Double date – two couples go on a date at the same time and place 3. Group date – where any number of couples can enjoy a date IMPORTANCE OF DATING Dating provides the partners with opportunities to: • Strengthen the relationship • Spend quality time with each other • Observe the other person’s character • Know one another better •Know one’s strengths and weaknesses •Reveal any potential problems the partners may have •Develop affection and respect for each other DATING IS NOT ALWAYS SAFE RISKS • There are risks connected with dating that can affect any person, especially young and innocent individuals. • Risks may include DATE RAPE, use of ILLEGAL DRUGS, EARLY and UNWANTED PREGNANCY. RISKS • There are some cases where individuals fall prey to thieves, robbers, kidnappers, or other types of criminals.
• That is why it is important to be cautious and safeguard
yourself to avoid mistakes that you will regret later on. ENGAGEMEN T ENGAGEMENT • Going steady is a period wherein the relationship between two people remains strong and well. • A period of agreement to be able to know each other and their families well enough to be sure that they are suited for life-long companionship. MARRIAGE MARRIAGE • The most enjoyable human relationship • The partners are two unique individuals, who understand, respect, care and love each other. • Marriage is not a mere contract but an inviolable social institution. MARRIAGE •Filipinos view marriage as a sacrament and a lifelong commitment. •Trust, respect, kindness, and love are essential factors to attain this goal. 2. Maturity 6. Economic 3. Fidelity readiness 4. Commitment 7. Physical maturity PREGNANCY-RELATED CONCERNS AND PRENATAL CARE NEW BEGINNING •Humans are reproduced through sexual reproduction. In this kind of reproduction, the reproductive cells of man and woman join together to make a new human cell. •The process is called FERTILIZATION. FERTILIZATION • Is a reproductive process wherein half of the genes of the father and mother combine to form a single cell; the new cell then divides and forms more cells. • Pregnancy is the time when a new cell is formed during fertilization, grows, and develops into a baby. •An unplanned and unwanted pregnancy can cause emotional anguish, possible health risks, and in some cases, limited life options. •Teenage pregnancies are premature because they occur in mothers who may be too young and/or immature to care for a child adequately. STATISTICS SAYS: • Teens at 15 and younger face a 60% higher risk of death during pregnancy and child birth than young mothers at the age of 20 • Babies born to young teenage mothers are two to three times more likely to die during their first year that babies born to older mothers •Teen mothers are twice more likely to have low birth weight infants (at risk of physical and mental defects as well as increased risk of death) •70% of teen mothers get no medical care at all during critical first months of pregnancy and 25% get no prenatal care at all. •Even with good prenatal care, teenage mothers are more likely to have premature labor and to deliver low birth-weight babies. •Young teen mothers are likely to drop out of school and face high risk of unemployment, poverty, and dependence on parents. •If they marry due to pregnancy, their risk of break up, or separation is high. •The young mother is more likely to be angered and disillusioned by her baby’s demands and may become an abusive parents. CHANGES IN THE MOTHER’S BODY • As soon as implantion happens, the mother’s uterus releases special hormones, which are only produced by the pregnant woman’s body make her nauseated. • This situation is called “MORNING SICKNESS” and usually lasts for three (3) months •The same hormones make the woman’s breast enlarged and prepared to produce milk. •Pregnant woman also experiences swelling of legs, difficulty in sleeping, restlessness, and irritability as the fetus gets larger. •Many women feel clumsy or uncomfortable too because of changes taking places. NOURISHING THE BABY • Almost everything that goes into the mother’s body enters her bloodstream and goes to the placenta. • PLACENTA is an organ that grows in the woman’s uterus during pregnancy and allows nutrients, gases and wastes to be exchanged between the mother and the fetus NORMAL PHYSICAL CHANGES AND SYMPTOMS THROUGHOUT PREGNANCY • Fatigue • Stretch marks • Varicose veins • Sleep problems • Skin changes • Leg cramps • Breast changes • Hand pain • Hip pain • Hair changes • Vagina charges • Nosebleeds and • Back pain • Morning sickness bleeding gums • Constipation • Heartburn PHASES OF PREGNANCY FIRST TRIMESTER •Lasts from week 1 through week 12. •The first sign of pregnancy may be a missed menstrual period SECOND TRIMESTER • From week 13 to week 27 • Is the time when most women start to look pregnant and may begin to wear maternity clothes THIRD TRIMESTER • From week 28 to the giving birth • Many women have some discomfort as their belly gets bigger. • Sleep problems are common during this period BIRTH BIRTH • The passage of a baby from its mother’s uterus to the outside of her body is called BIRTH • During birth, the uterus contracts many times and pushes the baby through the vagina and outside the mother’s body LABOR •Is a process that lasts from the time contractions start until the delivery of the child and the placenta. •Labor lasts a different amount of time for every woman and every pregnancy THREE DISTINCT STAGES OF LABOR 1 STAGE ST

until the cervix has opened enough to allow the baby to past through • Contraction happens every minutes and lasts a minute 2 ND STAGE • Starts when the cervix is completely open and lasts until the baby is delivered • After the baby is born, the doctor cuts the umbilical cord • Healthy babies breathe and cry almost immediately 3RD STAGE •Final stage of labor •It is when the placenta is delivered MOTHER’S ROLE DURING AND AFTER PREGNANCY • Avoid stressful activities • Do light exercises like walking, stretching, etc • Eat nutritious foods • Avoid vices like smoking, drinking, etc • Have a regular and necessary checkups FATHER’S ROLE DURING AND AFTER THE PREGNANCY OF THE WIFE • Take care of the mother and baby • See to it that the mother gets the necessary checkups • See to it that the necessary immunizations for the baby are followed as scheduled • Provide healthy diet meals for the mother and baby
