Lab Report Impact Testing - Final
• It is a destructive method.
• Impact testing is used on metals to calculate
the amount of energy absorbed during
fracture in order to assess the impact
resistance or toughness of the material.
• Tests are done for locomotive wheels, Coins,
and Connecting rods.
Materials required
Disadvantages :
• Impact testing cannot account for real-world impacts that
may vary in speed, impact force, angle of impact, chemical
exposure, corrosion effects, and more (Xometry, 2023b).
• Small changes in initial drop height, test specimen
preparation, and test specimen orientation can drastically
affect testing results (Xometry, 2023b).

Precautions/ Safety Measure:
• Must use safety glass during the entire experiment.
• Proper setup.
• External weight should be properly fastened.
• Pendulum should be hold properly at height by
adjusting the screw.
• Door should be close after all the setup done.
• Do not open the door until the pendulum come to
rest position.
• Do not use hand to stop the pendulum, it may cause
serious injuries.
Applications
• Qualitest Canada
• Performs charpy impact test on various metals
and temperatures upto -80 degree Celsius.
• The company have high tech equipment which
are fully automatic with digital reading, so there is
an negligible chance of human error.
• This company test on various steel products
including steel plates, pipes, vessels, weld metals,
machineries and heavy equipment's.
