QUARTER 2 WEEK 6 DAY 1

Share brief impromptu remarks about topics of

interest
Show tactfulness when communicating with others
Image Imagination
Let’s Study This

An impromptu speech is given with

little or no preparation, yet almost always
with some advance knowledge on the topic.
For example, if called on to speak in class, a
pupil might give a short impromptu speech
about a topic that was in the assigned
readings.
Tips for the Speaker (Impromptu Preparation)

1. Make sure to plan an introduction and a

conclusion. If possible, take a few moments
to think about what you want to say to
introduce the topic and have some way of
concluding.
Tips for the Speaker (Impromptu Preparation)

2. Make a few notes for yourself.

3. Consider the simple three-part
outline of an Introduction, Body,
and Conclusion, and fit your ideas
into that pattern.
Tips for the Speaker (Impromptu Preparation)

4. Talk like you mean it. In other

words speak with conviction. You
are explaining your ideas or
knowledge and you are an
authority.
5. Relax!

Let’s Study This
In reading, the ability to self-monitor
meaning enables students to select and use
strategies to improve comprehension.
Readers who self-monitor know when their
reading makes sense and when it does not. If
comprehension is blocked, they know what
strategies to use to repair it. Self-monitoring
is a significant component of comprehension.
Here are some good strategies that can be used in
monitoring and correcting during reading.

1. Cross Check
When you are reading ask yourself, "Does this word
look right, sound right, and make sense?"
2. Reread
When you are reading and a problem comes up, return
to the beginning of the sentence or paragraph and try
again.
3. Predict
Ask yourself, "What word do I expect this to be?",
"What do I think will happen next?", "Does that make
sense?"

4. Skip, Read On, and Go Back

If you come to a word you don't know, skip it and read
to the end of the sentence thinking about what word
would make sense. Using what you have learned, go
back and reread trying to figure out the word.
5. Use Background Knowledge
When you are reading think about what you already
know about the subject. You might see a connection that
will help you.

6. Stop and Make a Picture in Your Mind

When reading longer text, stop and think about what has
happened so far in the story. Make a picture in your
mind to help you "see" the events.
Read and Revise!
Those who cannot read are pityful
because they cannot enjoy boks. Books tell us
about the wondrful things in the world. They tell
us the intiresting things pipol do. Books can
answr the "whys" and "hows" of things that
puzle us. They can take us to farway placis

They can take us to faraway places through
imagination.
They can show us, too, the things
that happened a long time ago as
well as those happening at present.
Books tell us about the children in
other lands. They hold the key to
the greatest treasure in the world.
A wise man once said that
he would rather be a poor boy
