    What is History?

    History is the scientific field that studies the past. It studies the evolution of
    human society from its when it first began to the present.

    History shows us how people lived over time, what tools they used, what
    clothing they wore, what kind of shelters they built, even what they ate.

    We also find out more about the most important events that took part in the past
    and who were the important role players in the events that shaped the world as
    we know it today.
    Why Do We Study History?

    People who study all this data and information about the past are
    called historians.

    Herodotus is also nicknamed the "Father of
    History" because of the way he recorded the
    events in writing?
    He lived five centuries before Christ in
    ancient Greece.
    Why Do We Study History?
    In order to be able to reconstruct the history of a people or civilisation,
    evidence is needed. These are called historical sources. They can be:

    A primary source or a secondry source? Primary sources include documents,


    oral accounts, or artifacts created by a witness to or participant in an
    event. Secondary sources are books written about the event by someone who
    has researched the topic.
    Why Do We Study History?
    In order to be able to reconstruct the history of a people or civilisation,

    they carry out archaeological excavations and then run laboratory tests on the
    items they discover. Without their discoveries we would not know very much
    about our past.
