Declaration Policy

It should be the policy of the State to


conserve the country’s wildlife
resources and their habitats for
sustainability.
DECLARATION OF
POLICY
 To conserve and protect wildlife species and their
habitats to promote ecological balance and enhance
biological diversity
 To regulate the collection and trade of wildlife
 To pursue, with due regard to the national interest,
the Philippine commitment to international
conventions, protection of wildlife and their habitats
 To initiate or support scientific studies on the
conservation of biological diversity.
What Species are covered
by RA 9147?

• According to the law, ALL WILD SPECIES


are covered by the provisions of this law,
regardless if they are endemic or exotic

It refers to a species or subspecies that is

• It means species which have actual or


potential value in trade or utilization
for commercial purposes.

• Refers to a species or subspecies that is
not critically endangered but whose
survival in the wild is unlikely if the
causal factors of the endangering

• It mean species or subspecies which is
naturally occurring and found only

• It means the species or subspecies which
do not naturally occur in the country
and come from other countries.

• It means an act of engaging in the

purchase or sale of wildlife, their
derivatives or by-products, locally or
internationally.

captivity or are being bred or
propagated.

• Killing and destroying wildlife species


• Inflicting injury which cripples and/or impairs the
reproductive system of wildlife species
• Actions affecting the critical habitats
• Introduction, reintroduction or restocking of wildlife
resources
What acts are prohibited
under the law?

• Trading of wildlife
• Collecting, hunting or possessing wildlife, their by-products
or derivatives
• Gathering or destroying active nests, nest trees, host plants
and the like
• Maltreating and/or inflicting other injuries not covered by
the preceding paragraph
• Transporting of wildlife
What fines and penalties
await violators?

• For action like killing and destroying against


species listed as critical, imprisonment of a
minimum of six (6) years and one (1) day to
twelve (12) years and/or a fine of One
Hundred thousand pesos (100,000.00) to one
million pesos (1,000,000.00)
What acts are prohibited
under the law?

• For trading wildlife species listed as


endangered, imprisonment of one (1) year
and one (1) day to two (2) years and/or
fine of two thousand pesos
(2,000.00)pesos to Two hundred thousand
pesos (200,000.00)
