Input Devices

• Any data or instruction that is used by a computer is called input

• Input device translates words, sounds images, and actions that people
understand into symbols that the system unit can process
Some of the important input devices

• Mouse
• Keyboard
• Scanner
• Webcam
• Microphone
MOUSE

• Mouse is the most popular pointing device. It is a very famous cursor-control

device having a small palm size box with a round ball at its base, which
senses the movement of the mouse and sends corresponding signals to the
CPU A mouse can be used to control the position of the cursor on the screen
KEYBOARD

• Keyboard is the most common and very popular input device which helps to input data t
the computer.
• The layout of the keyboard is like that of traditional typewriter, although there are some
additional keys provided for performing additional functions.
SCANNER

• Scanner is an input device, which works more like a photocopy machine. It is

used when some information is available on paper and it is to be transferred
to the hard disk of the computer for further manipulation.
WEBCAM

• A webcam is a small digital video camera directly or indirectly

connected to a computer or a computer network.
• Webcams come with software that needs to be installed on
the computer to help users record video on or stream it from
the Web. Webcams are capable of taking pictures as well as
high-definition videos, although the video quality can be
lower compared to other camera models.
OUTPUT DEVICE

• Data processed into useful information is called OUTPUT

• A hardware component used to display information to the user is called
OUTPUT DEVICES
Most commonly used output devices are:

• Monitor
• LCD
• Printer
• Speaker
• Projector
MONITER

• A monitor is an output device that displays video images and text. A monitor
is made up of circuitry, a screen, a power supply, and buttons to adjust
screen settings, and casing that holds all of these components.
LCD

• LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is a type of flat panel display which uses liquid
crystals in its primary form of operation. LCDs were a big leap in terms of the
technology they replaced, which include light-emitting diode (LED) and gas-
plasma displays.
PRINTER

• A printer is an output device that prints paper documents. This includes text

documents, images, or a combination of both. The two most common types
of printers are inkjet and laser printers. Inkjet printers are commonly used by
consumers, while laser printers are a typical choice for businesses. Dot
matrix printers, which have become increasingly rare, are still used for basic
text printing.
SPEAKER

• Speakers are one of the most common output devices used with computer

systems. Speakers are transducers that convert electromagnetic waves into
sound waves. The speakers receive audio input from a device such as a
computer or an audio receiver.
PROJECTER

• A projector is an output device that takes images generated

by a computer or Blu-ray player and reproduce them by
projection onto a screen, wall, or another surface. A projector
