STEPS ON BUILDING HIGH
SELF-ESTEEM
Foundation to success

Just like a passport is a pre-requisite to

travel the world, similarly, a high self-
esteem is a pre-requisite to lead a
meaningful life confidently.
WHAT IS SELF-ESTEEM ?
• Self-esteem is how we value and
perceive ourselves.
• It's based on our opinions and beliefs
about ourselves, which can feel difficult
to change.
• We might also think of this as self-
confidence
• Your self-esteem can affect whether you: Like and value yourself as a
person.
• Self-esteem is a way of thinking, feeling, and acting that implies that you
accept, respect, and believe in yourself. - When you accept yourself, you
are okay with both the good and not so good things about yourself.
CAUSES OF LOW SELF-ESTEEM
• Negative Self-Talk or Negative Auto-suggestions
Example: - I have a poor memory
- I’m not good at math
• Environment {HOME}
• Upbringing{It is a great heritage to have honest parents}
• Education{Being ignorant is not shameful , but being unwilling to learn is}
• Poor role models
• Teaching the wrong values
{Whenever we go against our value system, our self-esteem goes down}
STEPS TO BUILDING A POSITIVE SELF-
ESTEEM
• STEP 1:Read biographies and autobiographies of successful people who
have turned their weakness into strength.
• STEP 2:Learn Intelligent Ignorance
{Education teaches us what we can do and also teaches us what we cannot do}
• STEP 3:Do Something for others who cannot repay you in cash or kind
• STEP 4:Learn to Give and Receive Compliments
• STEP 5:Accept Responsibility
Excuses make the problem worse than the problem itself.
we owe responsibility:- to self , to family ,to work , to society
• STEP 6:Practice Discipline

• STEP 7:Set Goals
{Well-defined goals give a person a sense of direction and a feeling of
accomplishment when he reaches his goals}
• STEP 8:Associate with people of High Moral Character
- Test of Friendship{Remember ,true friends never want to see their friends hurt}
-Peer Pressure
• STEP 9:Become Internally Driven ,Not Externally Driven
Unless we accept responsibility for our feelings and behaviour, we cannot change
The first step is to ask:
-Why did I get upset ?
-Why am I angry ?
-Why am I depressed ?
• STEP 10:Develop a Mindset that Brings Happiness
Set your own standards, be honest to yourself. Do the followings:
-Look for the positive in every person and in every situation
-Resolve to be happy
-Learn to find pleasure in every little thing
• STEP 11:Give Yourself Positive Auto-suggestions
Examples: -I can handle it
-I can do it
-I am good at math
• STEP 12:Turn your weakness into strength
(A) Our Greatest strength can become our greatest weakness
(B) Our Greatest weakness can become our greatest strength
• STEP 13:Have Patience
• STEP 14:Take Inventory : Make a list of all your strength and weaknesses
