APPLE PIE

An apple pie is a pie in

which the principal filling
ingredient is apple,
originated in England. It is
often served with
whipped cream, ice cream
or cheddar cheese. It is
generally double-crusted,
with pastry both above and
below the filling; the upper
crust may be solid or
latticed (woven of crosswise
strips). The bottom crust
may be baked separately to
prevent it from getting
soggy. Deep-dish apple pie
often has a top crust only
and tarte Tatin is baked with
the crust on top, but served
with it on the bottom.

MACARONI AND CHEESE
 Macaroni and cheese—also
called mac 'n' cheese in the United
States, and macaroni cheese in the
United Kingdom—is a dish of cooked
macaroni pasta and a cheese sauce,
most commonly cheddar. It can also
incorporate other ingredients, such as
breadcrumbs or meat.
 Traditional macaroni and cheese is a
casserole baked in the oven; however,
it may be prepared in a sauce pan on
top of the stove or using a
packaged mix. The cheese is often first
incorporated into a Béchamel sauce to
create a Mornay sauce, which is then
added to the pasta. In the United
States, it is considered a comfort food.

FISH AND CHIPS
 Fish and chips is a hot dish
consisting of fried fish in
batter, served with chips.
The dish originated in
England, where these two
components had been
introduced from separate
immigrant cultures; it is not
known who created the
culinary fusion that became
the emblematic British
meal. Fish and chips is a
common take-away food in
the United Kingdom and
numerous other countries,
particularly in English-
speaking and
Commonwealth nations.
