Before we begin
 This mode of teaching Japanese 1 is still new for all of us.
 We will all need time to adjust to the new format, so let’s
work together and have patience for others.

Who is your ‘ せんせい’ (sensee)?
How to use ‘ さん’ (san)?
Your tutorial 1 teacher is ______ せんせい (sensee).
My name is_______.
Please call me _____ せんせい .

‘ さん’ (san) is placed after a name as a generic title. It is


gender-neutral and used both with a given name and a family
name.
Note that さん and せんせい should not be used together:
i.e. ‘___ せんせいさん’ is incorrect.
