The 3As of operator selection

Evaluate aptitude, ability and

attitude
Aptitude Vs Attitude
Introduction …

The aim of the “Dexterity Tests” is to

standardize the selection and recruitment
process of machine operators. By
assigning a suitable job to the right
person, it will help to achieve shorter
training cycle.
Benefits …
 Recruiting operators having good sewing
potential
 Easier to assign job to operators
 Shorter training cycles
 Increase scope for Multi-skilled operators
Implementation ...
 All ‘new recruits’ should undergo the
Dexterity tests
 Applicant who succeed will be recruited as
trainee machinist
 Operators will be assigned to specific
operation, according to their scores
Dexterity Tests ...
 Pin-board Exercise (Hand)
 Ball & Tube Exercise (Finger)
 Needle Board Exercise (Perception)
 Eye Test Sheets (Perception)

 Now Let us see how these tests are

performed
Pin-Board Exercise …
Flip these pins and insert
them in the other side of the
board using both hands.
Time taken to perform the
test must be recorded

 Aim
 Test the ability of the ‘new recruits’ to perform fine
and rapid work with their fingers but mostly to assess
their hand dexterity
Ball and Tube Exercise …
Transfer marbles from one box to
another by passing it through the tube.
While performing the test the
candidate is allowed to look only at the
tube. Time taken to perform the test
must be recorded

 Aim
 To test the coordination of hands and also to assess the finger
dexterity of the ‘new recruits
Visual Accuracy
Follow these lines using the eyes only
(no guides like pen or pencil must be
used) and transfer the figures from the
left column to the right column. Time
taken to perform the test must be
recorded.

 Aim
 To assess the eye sight and the concentrating power of the
new recruits
Color Perception
Needle-Board Exercise …
Thread these 7 needles by starting
from the left. Trim the thread after
threading each needle. Time taken to
perform the test must be recorded

 Aim
 To test the eye sight of the recruit and also his/her ability and
speed to thread needles

recorded in this form and from these data the dexterity scores are
calculated
Dexterity Score Sheet

 Based on this score breakdown sheet, we assign to the ‘new

recruits’ the job that will better suit them. Color blind operators
will not be recruited
