1. What is Educational Technology
• "the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving
performance by creating, using and managing appropriate
technological processes and resources" (Ritzhaupt, Martin, Pastore &
Kang, 2018).
2. What is Instructional Technology
• Use of technology for teaching and learning purposes (as opposed to
educational administrative applications) – Roblyer & Doering (2010)
• Systemic and systematic application of strategies and techniques
derived from behavior and physical sciences … to the solution of
instructional problems – Gentry (1995)

4. What is Instructional Design
• …. encompasses the analysis of learning and performance problems,
and the design, development, implementation, evaluation and
management of instructional and non-instructional processes and
resources intended to improve learning and performance in a variety
of settings, particularly educational institutions and the workplace –
Reiser (2001)
Operational Definition of ID in this course
• Instructional Design is a systematic process of planning, executing
and evaluating an instruction;
• which involves 5 main activities: analysis; design; development;
implementation and evaluation;
• with the purpose to improve people’s learning and performances in
various settings.
