“do things”, to perform acts.
TYPES OF SPEECH ACTS
•Locutionary
•Illocutionary
•Perlocutionary
L O C U T I O N A RY
- occurs when the speaker
performs an utterance, or
an expression
L O C U T I O N A RY
Examples:

“Woaaaah….”
“What?”
“It’s a bird!”

- is the performance or
the act saying something
with a specific intention

- happens when what the
speaker says has an effect
on the listener
