Normality
In chemistry Normality is one of the expressions used to express and measure
the concentration of a solution.
N=Eq
V
N- normality
E q- number of gram equivalent of solute
V- volume of solvent in litres
Examples:
1. What is the normality of solution containing 50g of HCI
IN 1.5 solution?
Answer
N= # e , w
v
M= 36.46 g/mole
E,w= 36.46g
# e,w=50g
Examples :
4. What will the concentration of citric acid be if 25.ml of the citric acid
solution is titrated with 28.12 mL of 0.1718 N kOH?
Answer:
Na x Va = N b x V b
Na x ( 25.00mL) = (0.178N) (28.12mL)
Examples:
5. Find the normality if the base if 31.87 mL of the base is used in the
standardization of 0.4258 g of kHP ( eq.wt = 204.23)?
Answer:
0.4258 g kHP x ( 1eq / 204.23g) x ( 1 eq base / 1 eq acid ):
= 2.085 x 103 eq base/ 0.03187l = 0.6542 N
Normality of the base is = 0.6542 N.
