ABSTRACT:
This content aims to construct a control system for suspension system in
automobiles. The implementation technology of the controllers and the
subsequent experimental study are used. The present work aims to develop an
active, safe, and driving pleasure, and keeping vehicle occupants comfortable
and reasonably well isolated from road noise, bumps, and vibrations. Software
enables the modeling and dynamic simulation of the control system. A
simulation and analytical methodologies are used here to analyze the
suspension system. It is found that active suspension system improves ride
comfort even at resonant frequency. This content will show us the need for
“ELECTROMAGNETIC SUSPENSION” and further we will see how it was introduced as
well as the adjustments made to improvise , till the date.

Keywords: Electromagnetic Suspension

INTRODUCTION :

Electromagnetic suspension (EMS) is the magnetic levitation of an

object achieved by constantly altering the strength of a magnetic field
produced by electromagnets using a feedback loop. In most cases the
levitation effect is mostly due to permanent magnets as they don't have
any power dissipation, with electromagnets only used to stabilize the
effect.

In EMS a feedback loop which continuously adjusts one or more

electromagnets to correct the object's motion is used to cancel the in-
stability. Magnetic levitation technology is important because it reduces
energy consumption, largely obviating friction. It also avoids wear and
has very low maintenance requirement

METHODOLOGY

Working Principle of ElectroMagnetic Suspension System:

 Magnetic Shock Absorber which is mainly based on the principle of magnetic property like
when the same poles of two magnets come in contact with each other then they are
repulsed from each other.

 This unit is mounted in vehicle such as other type of shock absorber.

 The working of this absorber is very simple. Two magnets are mounted in this way that one
is mounted below and other is on upper side. Poles of these magnets are same at inner side
so that they are repulsed from each other and space is made between them due to this.

 when vehicle is running over an bump shocks and variations present in the vehicle absorbed
by repulsion property of the magnet.

 Magnetic field using both radial and axial magnets

 Electrical output
 Each absorber is filled with a polymer liquid containing many small magnetic particles. An
electrical charge is sent to the liquid in the absorber which immediately changes the position
of the particles in the liquid and its viscosity.

 The viscosity of the polymer liquid can be changed to an almost solid state similar to plastic
or rubber in composition.

 As the viscosity of the liquid changes, it offers a difference in the damping.

 Each of the four dampers are adjusted individually and independently even when it seems
that all of them are doing the same thing.

 By using this type of absorber we can absorb the more number of shocks and variations are
absorbed with the more accuracy.

 This shock absorber has no problem of leakage of oil like hydraulic shock absorber.
Electromagnetic Suspension
OVERVIEW
ADVANTAGES OF ELECTROMAGNETIC DAMPER BASED ON SUSPENSIONS SYSTEM:

 Better consistent handling and braking.

 In ordinary dual shock swing arm system both of them needs to work simultaneously as a
single system which does not happen due to poor maintenance, but this system is auto
adjusted by electronic control unit.
 Heat loss is less as no viscous oil is used, and a considerable of amount of energy can be
harvested
 Adaptation of this system is chapter as compared to Mono-shock suspensions.
 It is possible to upgrade this enhanced rear suspension system to bikes that are currently
employed with traditional oil viscous dampers as the dimensions fits
 Usage of these dampers is limited not only to bikes but also in machine parts were vibrations
are to be damped.
DISADVANTAGES:

 Increased volume of the suspension, since the force den-sity of the active part of
hydraulics is higher than for electromagnetic actuation, i.e., system mass and volume
could be less.

 Relatively high current for a 12- to 14-V system.

 conventional designs that need excitation.

Electromagnetic Suspension in Cars
CONCLUSION

The main aim was to review the proposed active electromagnetic suspension and differentiate it with
thealready present passive dampers. Active Electromagnetic Suspension Systems provide better ride comfort
along with activecontrol of roll, pitch and yaw movements. Along with these qualities, they also provide
space for energy harvesting as somestudies suggest that the proposed system uses less than 50 % power
used by the air-conditioning system in the vehicle. Dueto its better road-holding performances, the
suspension travel can be reduced with almost negligible amount of vertical loadsfrom roads to
passengers. But all these advantages have to be compromised with a price in reduced acceleration due to a
significant increase in un-sprung mass because of the no-linear features of the rotating actuators. Along with
that, the suspension volume increasesand an steep increase in system cost. All these flaws need to be
eliminated and also a better energy harvesting need to bedesigned to reduce the energy losses that occur in
the electromagnetic damper.
