Last year, Steve Grain worked for a big bank in New York City. He had a great
salary, a nice house, and drove an expensive car. Steve thought he had everything he
wanted. But one day, all that changed. Steve had a heart attack. He was in the
hospital for five weeks. In fact, he nearly died, “I worked myself almost to death”,
said Steve, “I was the person who always had to be the best, drive the fastest car, and
earn the biggest salary, but I wasn’t happy.
“I was stressed all the time”. When he left the hospital, Steve changed his life
dramatically. He left his job at the bank, bought a smaller house, and started working
as a gardener. “I’ve always wanted to work outside”, he said, “Now, I get much more
exercise and I spend more time with my family. I live in a smaller house. I realized I
don’t have to always be the best. My life is much quieter and simpler now – and I’m
much happier.
