WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE???

 AI is intelligence displayed by machines, in contrast with natural

intelligence
 Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be regarded as a computer system that
is designed in a certain way so that it will be able to perform tasks that
generally require human intelligence. These artificial systems are
controlled by machine learning out of which some of them are
controlled by core learning and protocols.
ADVANTAGES OF
ARTIFICIAL
INTELLIGENCE
(AI)
 In education, they may replace teachers for tedious tasks

 In health sectors, they may help doctors and nurses in treatments

of their patients
ADVANTAGES  In science and technology they may operate outside the Earth
and bring important data
 In military, there are smart weapons and planes without pilots
They lack Building artificial Loss of jobs
emotions people

DRAWBACKS

Lack or absence Lack of

of understanding consciousness and
if they are not ethical values
programmed
 A robot is…

 A machine which is capable of carrying out a complex series

of actions automatically.

ROBOTS :  “An active artificial agent whose environment is the physical

world”
DEFINITION --Russell and Norvig

 “A programmable, multifunction manipulator designed to

move material, parts, tools or specific devices through variable
programmed motions for the performance of a variety of tasks”
--Robot Institute of America
ADVANTAGES OF ROBOTS

Increasing
Higher Perfection and
safety for Speed Time saving
productivity consistency
human beings

Reduction of Faster
Low cost Available 24/7
work errors decisions
DISADVANTAGES OF ROBOTS

 Robots need a continuous supply of power

 They are restricted to programming

 They need expertise to install and run

 They may cause people to lose their jobs

 Maintenance and repair are expensive.

 They have no emotions

WHAT IS THE
« TUNING TEST? »

 A test for intelligence in a

computer, requiring that a human
being should be unable to
distinguish the machine from
another human being by using the
replies to questions put to both.
