WHAT IS VOLLEYBALL?
● a game for two teams,
usually of six players, in
which a large ball is hit
by hand over a high net,
the aim being to score
points by making the
ball reach the ground on
the opponent's side of
the court.

THE
VOLLEYBALL
COURT
VOLLEYBALL COURT DIMENSIONS

● The Volleyball court is 60 feet by 30 feet in total. The net

in placed in the center of the court, making each side of
the net 30 feet by 30 feet.
1. BASELINES/ENDLINES
● The baselines or end lines are located on the ends of the court. They mark the end of
the backcourt, and indicate the line that players must stand behind when serving.
Any ball that lands beyond these lines is considered out of bounds. It is important to
get a feel for where the baseline is so a defender can avoid touching a ball that is
traveling out of bounds. Depending on who you're talking to you may hear these lines
be called either baselines or end lines.
2. SIDELINES
● These lines can be found on the sides of the court. Behind these lines, you may see
coaches, referees, other players, and the media (photographers, film crews). As is the
case with the baselines, any ball that lands completely outside of the sidelines is out.
Sidelines are also where two players meet for a substitution
3. ATTACK LINE
● An attack line is marked 10 feet of each side of the center line.
4. CENTER LINE

● A center line is marked at the center of the court dividing it

equally into 30 feet squares, above which the net is placed.
5. VOLLEYBALL COACH RESTRICTION
LINE
● The coach restriction line marks where the coaches of each volleyball team are allowed
to stand and move between during a game. This is the area behind the sidelines and
behind the attack line. Coaches must make sure not to cross this line as doing so multiple
times may result in a penalty or even a yellow card.
6. SERVICE LINE
● A service line, the area from which the server may serve the volleyball, is
marked 10 feet inside the right sideline on each back line.
POLL
● Volleyball poles should be set
at 36 feet apart, 3 feet further
out from the sidelines.
THE BALL
THE VOLLEYBALL BALL
● A volleyball is a ball used to play
indoor volleyball, beach volleyball, or
other less common variations of the sport.
Volleyballs are round and traditionally
consist of eighteen nearly rectangular
panels of synthetic or genuine leather,
arranged in six identical sections of three
panels each, wrapped around a bladder. A
valve permits the internal air pressure to
be adjusted. In a break from the
traditional construction, in 2008, the FIVB
adopted as its official indoor ball a new
Mikasa with dimples and only eight panels
for a softer touch and truer flight.[
PROFESSIONAL

INDOOR
VOLLEYBALL
BALLS
The professionals all have their
favorite indoor volleyball balls.
They are designed for comfort,
ease of play and managing their
setting well. Here are the three
top indoor volleyball balls and
their history.
Tachikara SW5WSC.
● Tachikara is a Japanese company that was first
founded in 1915. They specialize in sports
equipment in general, but have a very keen
interest in volleyball balls also. In fact, this is what
they are most known for. They are the official ball
of the women’s volleyball NAIA, or National
Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the
official volleyball of China, Oceania, Africa, Canada
and Europe. The Tachikara SW5WSC is one of the
most highly touted pieces of equipment the
company designed. It is created with a Butyl
bladder and coated with T-Tech micro-leather for
streamlined performance. What is standout about
this design is its noted attention to the tactile play
style and how the outer coating plays perfectly to
accurate management of the ball during a high-
energy game.
Molten FLISTATEC 5000.
● This is another company based out of Japan and
like Tachikara, it is a leader in creating sports
equipment. It makes basketballs, volleyballs,
footballs and other styles of handballs for
intense and official use. Their basketballs are the
official ones used for the FIBA, or International
Basketball Federation. Their volleyballs are the
official balls for the US national teams and the
youth teams since 1997 and 2001, respectively.
Their Molten FLIPSTATEC 5000 is also the
official ball of the NCAA men’s division and used
by many different collegiate conference games.
It offers outstanding control of the ball and its
structure increases its stability during flight and
visibility. What makes this different is that the
ball is built with the ability to maximize its
surrounding air-current when in flight and also
is easy to grip.
Mikasa MVA200
● Mikasa is another corporation that sells sports
equipment and is based out of Japan. Their
volleyball balls are the official ones used by the
FIVB in worldwide competitions. They also
provided the official equipment for the London
Olympics of 2012 and 2016. The Mikasa MVA200
is an 8-panel design that has special aerodynamic
dimples throughout its outer body. These dimples
make ball handling that much easier. It boasts a
highly engineered design that plays perfectly to
the stability and control of the ball when in high-
intensity gameplay. This is a high priority with
players and the Mikasa brand focuses on
elevating gaming to a higher level. This ball in
particular has an exclusive micro-fiber covering
that is soft and a nylon center. The MV200 is one
of the top indoor balls available and when you
play with it, you’ll find a definite difference in
dexterity and control.
THE NET
THE VOLLEYBALL NET
● Volleyball nets are a piece of
equipment used in every
volleyball game. They are
used for both indoor and
outdoor volleyball Volleyball
nets can vary in size and are
one of the most iconic pieces
of equipment in volleyball
WHAT ARE VOLLEYBALL NETS USED FOR?
● Volleyball nets are a long rectangular net that is held up between two
poles. They are placed right in the center of the volleyball court with
each team on one side of the net. The volleyball players must hit the ball
over the net during a rally in order to keep the ball in play. The net also
cannot be touched by a player during a rally otherwise the rally will end
and the opposing team will gain a point. A player must also not cross
underneath the net during a rally or the same outcome will occur.
Volleyball nets also have two small poles that stick above the net. These
poles are placed directly above the sidelines to indicate a vertical
boundary. A player must pass the ball over the net inside of the two poles
as well The standard height for men's volleyball nets is just under eight
feet while women's nets are around seven feet and four inches. This is
the same for both indoor and outdoor nets. Volleyball nets are also
commonly used during practice, but not all drills will require a net.
THINGS TO CONSIDER
When looking for a volleyball net, you'll want to consider the following:

● What are you going to use the net for?

● Are you going to set up the net indoors or outdoors?
● How much money do you want to spend on a volleyball net?
● How much space do you have?
● Is the net going to be used for competition or practice?
● Do you need a portable or in-ground net?
TYPES

● The different types of

volleyball nets are indoor
and outdoor nets. While the
actual nets themselves have
little variation between the
two types, the overall setup
of the net differs greatly.
VOLLEYBALL INDOOR NETS
● Indoor and outdoor volleyball nets are very similar. However, indoor volleyball nets
are designed specifically for indoor volleyball. They will usually have much lighter
poles that will be easier to store and transport. While indoor nets do not have to focus
as much on weather resistance, they are still made of highly durable materials to last
many years. The materials of indoor nets are mostly the same as outdoor nets.
VOLLEYBALL OUTDOOR NETS
● Outdoor nets are designed specifically for outdoor volleyball. They are around the
same height as indoor volleyball nets. However, outdoor volleyball nets are usually
made with heavier and more weather-resistant poles since they are often left
outside. Certain nets may also be advertised as outdoor specific nets as they are
more lightweight and can be brought to and from an outdoor venue easily.
BRAND
The most popular brands that produce volleyball nets are Baden, Champion, and Spalding.

● Baden: Baden makes sports equipment for a wide variety of different sports. They make two
different volleyball nets that come in complete sets and are designed for mainly outdoor use.

● Champion Sports: Champion Sports is another brand that makes a wide variety of sporting
equipment. They make nylon volleyball nets that can be used both indoors and outdoors.

● Spalding: Spalding makes high quality equipment for basketball, as well as a few other sports.
They make full volleyball systems which are made for indoor use.
CONSIDERATIONS
● When deciding which volleyball
nets to buy, always consider the
durability, cost, and sizes.
DURABILITY
- Volleyball nets are very durable. They are designed to last a long time
and most people will only need to purchase one over the course of many
years. Outdoor nets may not last as long as indoor nets since they are
often exposed to harsh weather
COST
- Volleyball nets vary greatly in cost. Portable outdoor sets that are mainly
designed for recreational use can usually be found for under
$100(5,620.80 Philippine peso). Individual nets that are designed for
official use will usually cost between $100(5,620.80 Philippine peso)
and $300(16,861.80 Philippine peso). Buying a full volleyball set for
official use will likely cost at least $3,000(168,618.00 Philippine peso).
SIZES
-Volleyball nets come in a few different sizes. They are usually all around
36 feet long, with the actual net measuring around 39 inches tall. Most
nets can be adjusted to many different heights depending on the gender
and age group using the net. One size net will likely be able to be used for
any league
