Schizophrenia

Quinonez, Anna Marie S.

INTRODUCTION
Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness in which reality is perceived by sufferers
strangely. Schizophrenia may include hallucinations, delusions, and severely irrational
thinking and behavior, which can make it difficult to go about daily activities and be
incapacitating. People with schizophrenia require lifelong treatment. Early treatment
may help get symptoms under control before serious complications develop and may
help improve the long-term outlook.

Diagnosis
Schizophrenia usually diagnosed in late adolescence or early adulthood. Rarely does it manifest in
childhood. The peak incidence of onset is 15 to 25 years of age in men and 25 to 35 years of age in
women. Studies shows that Although it is difficult to determine the exact prevalence of
schizophrenia, estimated is 1% of the total population. In the United state that translate to 3 million
people who are have been or will be affected by the disease.
Schizophrenia has two major category it includes, Positive symptoms of schizophrenia include
delusions, hallucinations, and wildly disorganized thinking, speaking, and behavior. Negative
symptoms include flat affect, lack of volition, and social withdrawal or discomfort. Although
medication can regulate good symptoms, it's common for negative symptoms to linger after positive
feelings have subsided. The continuation of these detrimental effects over time poses a significant
obstacle to healing and better client daily functioning.

In conclusion, millions of people in
the United States suffer with
schizophrenia, Without the right care,
this might affect many relationships.
People with schizophrenia frequently
display symptoms. People go through a lot

Conclusion if they are in a relationship. Because of

this, relationships frequently break down
and cause issues. This is not something to
be taken lightly, and if things worsen,
the person needs to obtain help right away
from a doctor to get through this.

This is why It's crucial to have a

supportive network of individuals you can
turn to when things aren't going well if
you have a significant medical condition
like schizophrenia.
Reflection
•As a nursing student this is the first time that I was able to do my
clinical duty in psychiatric area. I was actually expecting that this is
going to be different since I am now dealing with not just people
with common diseases, but I am now dealing with patient who has
a mental Illness. At first I was expecting that this is going to be
challenging because it’s only me whose going to be exposed in the
area but then my expectation was opposite to what happened
during my exposure because I find it very interesting in dealing with
different psych patients, especially that I was able to witnessed
their different symptoms and with that I told my self how important
it is to exposed your self and engaged in an actual setting to see
and appreciate the actual patients with their different
manifestations.
Reflection
I was able to let my patient draw and enjoy the music therapy,
and in our last day we were able to let them engage in
recreational activities. This provided welcome despite for the
remaining patients who enjoyed and for those patient who did not
participate in the activities.

This facility had a more relaxed atmosphere, and it seemed to

place more of an emphasis on individuals maintaining self-control
and responsibility. Each member of a multidisciplinary team,
including the patients, utilities, doctors, and nurses, has their
owned respective places.
Reflection

During my 3 days exposure in the area, I

realized how important it is to support mental
health care facilities in order to promote
accessibility, acceptability, of services, the
availability and integration of mental health
services within communities can also encourage
treatment adherence and raise the likelihood of
successful clinical outcomes.
