    SIMPLIFYING RATIONAL
    ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSIONS
    Simplifying rational algebraic expression is the
    same as simplifying rational numbers. Both uses the
    concept of factoring. Factoring out and canceling
    the GCF among numbers is use in rational numbers
    while factoring out and canceling the common
    polynomial factors for rational algebraic
    expression.

    SIMPLIFYING RATIONAL ALGEBRAIC
    EXPRESSIONS

    1. Factor the numerator and denominator.


    2. Write a product of two rational expressions one
    factor containing the GCF of the numerator and
    denominator, and the other containing the remaining
    factors.
    3. Rewrite the factor containing the GCF as 1.
    4. Multiply the remaining factors by 1.
    *The process of cancellation can be used to
    reduce the number of steps in simplifying
    rational expressions.
