  Introduction to Hadabiya

• The treaty of Hudaibiya was a very

significant event in the history of Islam
that occurred in 6 Hijri, January 628 A.D.

• This pact was to ensure peace and

harmony between the Muslims of
Madinah, under their Prophet
Muhammad, and the Quraish of Makkah.
 Background

• After the battle of the trench (ditch), Hazrat

Muhammad saw a dream in which he was entering
the Sacred Mosque (Masjid-e-Haram).

• The Holy Quran mentions the dream of the Holy Prophet   in the following
words:
•           Truly did Allah fulfil the vision of His messenger; Ye shall enter the
Sacred Mosque if Allah wills. with minds secure … and without fear …

Surah Fath (48:27) Al-

Quran
 Journey to Makkah
• In 628 C.E. six years had passed since Holy Prophet.

• During this period of  six years Muslims fought three battles
ie. Battle of Badar, Uhud and the Ditch.
• After battles, Quraish lost initiative and Holy Prophet decide to
perform a Hajj.

• Khalid bin Waleed and Ikrama bin Abu Jahl with two hundred
horse men decide to restrain the entry of Holy Prohpet in Makkah.
The Pledge
• The Muslims encamped in Hudaibiya.
• They talk in Diplomatic Language to impress Quraish.

• Hazrat Abu Bakar flared and said:

"May God curse you; how dare you think that we
will abandon the Holy Prophet. Rest assured, we will stand
by him, whatever the cost, and will fought for him to the
last".
• Holy Prophet sent Othman to Makkah to assure Quraish that
Muslims merely want to perform Hajj.
The Treaty
• When the Muslims were poised to take up aarms and attack
Makkah Othman returned to camp to negotiate treaty with
Muslims.
• Suhail was notorious a treaty with Islam.
• Suhail and Holy Prophet came to terms and agreed to execute a
treaty.
• Ali was commissioned to draft the treaty.
• According to the treaty of Hudaibiya, truce was declared
between the Muslims and the Quraish for ten years.
 Conditions of Treaty
• It was decided to hold a ceasefire between the parties for a period of 10 years. During this time,
people were supposed to live in safety and harmony.
• It was decided that the agreement between any tribe and the Prophet was not prohibited. Similarly,
anyone who wanted to join the Quraish people and sign an accord with them could not be stopped.
• One more vital treaty of Hudaibiyah point was that anyone from Makkah who entered Madinah will
be returned to the Quraish people, but the people of Madinah wandering inside Makkah will not be
extended the same courtesy.
• Among the treaty of Hudaibiyah points, perhaps the most significant was that the Muslims will
return to Madinah without visiting the Kaaba that year. Instead, next year, they will be allowed
entry and a peaceful stay in Makkah for a period of three days.
 Muslims reaction to the Treaty
• Some of the companions of Hazrat Muhammad , such as Hazrat Umar
bin Khattab (R.A), were not happy over the terms of the treaty of
Hudaibiya.

• As a result, they declared their concern openly to the Prophet

Muhammad who assured them of the support and help of God.
This happened as well as the Quran says:
Verily We have granted thee a manifest
victory.
Surah Fath (48:1) al-quran
Importance
•This treaty was important for the Muslims of Madinah as it allowed them
to perform Umrah the next year (7 Hijri).

•The treaty allowed peace and harmony to prevail as both the Quraish
and the Muslims came on friendly terms.

•The increasing influence and the strength of Islam was evident as the
bitterest enemies of Islam were ready to negotiate with the Muslims.

•Lastly, the pact was a clear indication that Islam is a religion of peace.
