MEMORANDUM

A memorandum, more commonly known as a memo, is a short message or


record used for internal communication in a business. Once the primary
form of internal written communication, memorandums have declined in
use since the introduction of email and other forms of electronic
messaging; however, being able to write clear memos certainly can serve
you well in writing internal business emails, as they often serve the same
purpose.

PARTS OF MEMO

There are mainly five parts of a memorandum. They are

 Heading Segment
 Opening Segment
 Context
 Task Segment
 Summary Segment
 Discussion Segment
 Closing Segment
 Necessary Attachments
PURPOSE OF MEMORANDUM

A person writes a memo with some purposes in mind. It is used


 To inform.
 To inquire.
 One can use it to report.
 To give suggestions.
 To remind.
 One can use it to instruct.
 One can promote goodwill using a memo.
 To communicate the ideas.
FORMAL MEMO

Formal memos are similar to legal memo format samples in which it uses
the full name of the recipient; the tone is formal just like in formal letters.
On the other hand, informal memo is used by close associates in the
workplace; given names are used in addressing the person.
INFORMAL MEMO

Informal memos may be used to report on something that is not of high


importance, or present information to a small number of people or in a less
formal setting. When writing an informal memo, be professional and keep
it short and to the point. An informal memo should be about one page and
include the necessary information.
