Objectives:
• listen perceptively to music of
South Asia and the Middle East
• analyze musical elements of
selected songs and instrumental
pieces heard and performed
• relate the value of productivity to
the lesson
1.Music of India
 The basis for Indian music is the Sangeet.

 Sangeet is the combination of three art forms: vocal,


instrumental and dance.

 For Indians, music is a sacred form of art having


greatly influenced by the Vedic Hymns.

 Indians’ vocal music is their way of expressing their


deep devotion to their gods.
2. Musical Instruments of India
 Sitar- a popular stringed instrument in the north.
 Harmonium- a small, tabletop-sized organ with
bellows at the back that is pumped by one hand.
 Tabla and Bhaya- a pair of drums
 Ghungroos- small brass bells.
3. Music of Israel
 It is a combination of Jewish and non-Jewish music
traditions that have come together to create
distinctive musical culture.

 It reflects its mood, history, dreams, and aspirations.

 It is always accompanied by singing, dancing and


musical instruments.
4. Musical Instruments of Israel
 Riq- Israeli’s tambourine
 Birch- it is like Western cymbals.
 Kinnor- It is the national instrument of Israel.
 Shofar- It is used for religious and non-religious
purposes.
