Today's Objectives
1. Analyze the six trigonometric
functions in a unit circle through
unit circle chart.
2. Differentiate the six trigonometric
functions based on terminal angle.
3. Actualize respect in individual’s
differences.

PROBLEM 1
The distance of
Laurence from the foot
of the tower is 200m
and the angle of
elevation is 40⁰. What
is the height of the
tower?
Given:
Angle elevation (θ) = 40˚

Solution
Distance from the tower (adjacent)= 200m
Height of the tower (Opposite) = ?

Since we need to find the height of the tower we will use

the tangent formula where tan(θ) = Opposite/Adjacent

tan(40⁰) = o/200m Solve the value of h

200 tan (40⁰) = o Divide both side by 200
o = 200 tan (40⁰) Symmetric property of equality
o≈167.82m Using scientific calculator

Answer: The approximate height of the tower is 167.82 meters

PROBLEM 2
From the top of a fire
tower, a forest ranger sees
his partner on the ground
at an angle of depression
of 40º. If the tower is 45
feet in height, how far is
the partner from the base
of the tower, to the nearest
tenth of a foot?
Given:
Angle depression (θ) = 40˚

Solution
Height of the tower (Opposite) = 45 feet
Distance from the tower (adjacent)= ?

Since we need to find the distance of the ranger from the tower we will
use the tangent formula where tan(θ) = Opposite/Adjacent

Answer: The approximate distance from the tower is 53.6 feet
